“I really didn’t want to bother you so late,” Wendy sobbed. “But this keeps happening. I can’t hold on anymore. Please, Peyton? I’d rather stay in this wheelchair for the rest of my life than go through this
torture.”
Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably, her heart filled with agony.
Seeing her like this, Peyton felt a throbbing headache. He didn’t know what to say, but he still hoped to convince her to stay and keep training.
“Wendy, I talked to the doctor on my way here,” he said gently. “He told me the pain is only temporary. After you train for a while, he’ll adjust the intensity. By then, your body will have recovered a bit, and it won’t hurt as much.
“This process is painful and unbearable. If I could, I’d take this pain for you. But no one can do this for you. You have to get through it yourself.”
Peyton had already been extremely patient with her, continuing to persuade her, refusing to let her give up just like that.
“I know you’re doing this for my own good,” Wendy cried. “You’ve spent so much time and energy on me. But I really can’t keep going. You have no idea how torturous this pain is.
“I wanted to hold on for you, but I’m at my limit now. Please, just let me leave. I can’t do this anymore.”
Her pain was real this time-no pretense at all. These days had been sheer torment, each day feeling like a
year.
“Wendy, don’t you want to walk again?” Peyton asked. “You’re still so young. You have a long life ahead of you. You deserve a better life. That’s why I’m pushing you to keep going.
“I’ve arranged for the top experts from home and abroad, using the most advanced technology in the world. They can help you walk again. Trust me. Give me a chance, and give yourself a chance!”
Peyton wanted to calm her down, so his voice was soft and patient.
On any other day, he would have walked away and stopped interfering. But he’d already started this process. He was someone who finished what he started. He never gave up halfway,
“Peyton, but you don’t understand how much this hurts,” Wendy wailed, her cries becoming hysterical. Tve really tried my best. I’ve worked hard to cooperate with you. I wanted to hold on for you more than anything.
“I know if I keep going, you’ll be happy with me, proud of me. You’ll spend more time with me. How could I not want that? But I can’t take it anymore…”
She cried even harder, her sobs tearing at her chest. There was no acting this time. Her pain was genuine.
“Let’s call it a day,” Peyton sighed. “Go home and rest, calm down. I’ll take you back.
“Think about it tonight-do you want to come back tomorrow? If you want to live a normal life, you have to keep going. It will take time, but you’ll get the results you want. Nothing you do now will be in vain.”

Seeing how distraught she was, Peyton knew she couldn’t continue today. He decided to take her home with him.
Nothing should be given up so easily-that’s what he believed.
“Peyton, will you come home with me and stay with me tonight?” Wendy asked, her eyes filled with earnest pleading and hope. She saw this as the perfect chance to keep him by her side. She wouldn’t let it slip away.
But Peyton didn’t rush to agree. He just said flatly, “Let’s go home first.”
The driver had been waiting at the door. Peyton took Wendy out of the rehabilitation center and drove her to her place.
Ever since she’d fallen ill, Wendy had a special privilege: she could use his driver whenever she wanted. No matter where she wanted to go or when she wanted to leave, the driver was always available, taking extra care of her-even more than he did for Peyton.
Peyton had been using his power to make amends, giving her the best of everything. But in her mind, it seemed like all this was just his duty-not repayment for anything.
On the way, Wendy gradually calmed down, no longer as impulsive as before. Her emotions had stabilized.
