When they got home, Peyton didn’t leave right away. He followed Wendy into her bedroom.

He helped her get out of the wheelchair and lie down on the bed.

“Peyton, can you stay with me tonight?” Wendy begged, her voice turning coquettish. “Every time I sleep. alone, I have nightmares and wake up suddenly in the middle of the night. It’s terrible.

“But if you’re here with me, I’ll feel safe and won’t have any bad dreams. Please?” Her eyes looked helpless and pitiful.

“Okay,” Peyton agreed. He decided to stay with her tonight to ensure she’d go back to the rehabilitation

center tomorrow.

It was just one night-nothing to him.

“Really, Peyton?” Wendy asked, surprised. She’d only been testing the waters, never expecting him to actually agree.

It seems this trick works. If that’s the case, I’ll agree to go back to the center.

“Thank you, Peyton. Thank you for always taking care of me. I’ll go to sleep now,” Wendy said, suddenly becoming obedient. She closed her eyes right away.

She’d been exhausted from all the commotion earlier. As soon as she lay down, she fell asleep.

Once Wendy was asleep, Peyton went to the living room alone. He sent Quinn a message, telling her he might not come home tonight and asking her to rest early.

Quinn hadn’t been able to sleep either. She tossed and turned in bed, constantly wondering what Peyton and Wendy were doing and if Wendy had calmed down.

She was surprised to receive his message. She never thought he’d stay there overnight.

But he explained in the message that Wendy’s condition was still unstable and she needed him there to ensure she’d go back to rehabilitation the next day.

Quinn understood.

Wendy really needs Peyton right now.

“Okay. If you need anything or it’s inconvenient for you, feel free to call me anytime,” she replied.

Quinn was very reasonable. She told herself not to dwell on this. Rehabilitation is just starting. It will be a long process, and there will be more incidents like this in the future.

If she got upset over every little thing, she’d drive herself crazy before the engagement. They’d end up fighting, which would only hurt their relationship.

She couldn’t let that happen.

“Quinn, thank you for understanding,” Peyton replied. “I know this is hard for you, especially since we’re

getting engaged soon. But I have no choice right now.

“Don’t worry. Once she gets better, I’ll cut off all contact with her. I’ll give her enough money to live comfortably for the rest of her life.”

He’d already made up his mind about this.

He’d done more than enough for her over the years. He had no more guilt left.

Before they knew it, the next day arrived.

Wendy slept soundly in her room until noon. But rehabilitation couldn’t be delayed.

Peyton thought it was time to wake her up. If they didn’t leave soon, today’s session would be ruined. They’d also need time to get ready and travel there.

Wendy felt irritable when a maid woke her up. She was about to lose her temper when she saw Peyton standing at the door, watching her.

Her expression softened immediately.

“Peyton, you’re still here! I slept so well last night with you here. No nightmares at all. I had the best sleep ever,” she said happily.

She felt so lucky. For some reason, having him around made her feel like she had the whole world.

“Get ready first. We’ll have lunch, then head to the rehabilitation center together,” Peyton said.

“Peyton, didn’t we agree to take a break?” Wendy protested. “Why do we have to go again? Can’t I skip today?”

She didn’t want to go. She was still resisting.

Why doI have to face this harsh reality as soon as I wake up?

“I’m sure you thought about it carefully last night. You still need to go to the center. I believe you’ll get better soon. I’ll stay with you today,” Peyton said firmly.

He was fully prepared. These would be his hardest days. Whenever he had time, he’d accompany her to the center to help her keep going.
