Chapter 120 Why Can’t She Leave Him Alone?

After hanging up the phone, Eleanor and Doris sensed something was off in Quinn’s voice.

“I noticed it too,” Doris said. “But that girl always hides,her troubles. She never tells me when something’s wrong, even if I ask.”

“That rascal Peyton must have upset Quinn!” Eleanor fumed. “Otherwise, she wouldn’t be in such a bad mood. Let’s stop with all this wedding prep nonsense. We’re going to check on her right now.”

She cared deeply about Quinn. Sensing Quinn’s low mood, she was eager to rush over.

Doris thought her reaction was a bit over the top..

Showing up unannounced without any preparation seems unnecessary

Young couples always have minor disagreements. It is perfectly normal. There’s no need to make a big fuss.

“I think we should leave them be,” she suggested. “They can work things out on their own. Maybe she’s just stressed from work? Let’s not meddle. They need to handle their own issues.

“I’ve watched Peyton grow up. He’s a responsible young man-otherwise, I’d never have let Quinn be with him. I don’t think he’d upset her. He’d fix any problem before it got out of hand.”

Doris trusted Peyton completely. She knew Quinn had already been hurt in a past relationship, and she’d never let that happen again. She’d personally vetted Peyton. She was sure she hadn’t made a mistake.

“No way. I’m going to find out what’s going on,” Eleanor insisted. “Quinn’s ‘such a strong girl. She can handle work stress on her own. If she’s this down, it’s not just work.

“I’ll call our driver right now. He’ll take us there. It’s been too long since we’ve seen them. I miss them

anyway.

“I’ll pick up Iris too. She misses them both, especially Quinn.”

In an instant, Eleanor had made all the arrangements. They’d been out shopping for engagement supplies, but nothing mattered more than Quinn right now.

Doris felt flustered, being dragged away without any preparation. But since they were going to see Quinn, she didn’t refuse.

Two hours later, they arrived at Peyton’s house with Iris. But neither Peyton nor Quinn was home. They were both busy with work.

“Mrs. Iris Reed, Mrs. Reed,” Mabel greeted them respectfully as she approached.

“Mabel, you’ve worked for our family for years,” Eleanor said. “I need you to tell me the truth. Have Peyton and Quinn been fighting these past few days?”

She took this matter very seriously, keeping it weighing on her mind.

“They’ve both been really busy with work lately,” Mabel replied. “I haven’t seen any signs of fighting, and I don’t think they’re having any issues.

“But… but yesterday I heard them on the phone. It sounded like Mr. Reed has been at the rehabilitation center these days, accompanying Wendy for her treatment.”

Mabel told the truth.

Mrs. Reed will find out eventually. Being honest is the only way to get this over with.

Mrs. Reed seems warm and approachable most of the time, but she’s extremely sharp. Nothing can be hidden from her.

Eleanor immediately figured out the problem.

It had to be that woman. Wendy must be finding ways to cling to Peyton, forcing him to stay with her.

“I knew it was her!” she snapped. “She did save my son’s life, but he’s done more than enough to repay her over the years. Why can’t she leave him alone? He’s about to get engaged. Doesn’t she have any sense of propriety?

“I see right through her little games. She’s in love with my son and wants to tie him down. But Peyton has no feelings for her-otherwise, they would’ve been together long ago. If she hadn’t chased him so relentlessly back then, that car accident would’ve never happened!”

Just hearing Wendy’s name made Eleanor furious, as if her nerves had been struck. She became extremely agitated.
