“Quinn, I’ve been there before,” Eleanor said earnestly. “No woman can stand her man spending every day with another woman at rehabilitation. That girl is just being dramatic. She wants to tie Peyton to her side. I know her type too well.”
Eleanor and Iris had interacted with Wendy shortly after the accident. They’d both agreed she was manipulative. But since they owed her a debt of gratitude, there was nothing they could do back then.
“Alright, let’s discuss this together and find a solution,” Iris suggested. “Right now, the most important thing is their engagement. Once they’re engaged, that woman will hopefully know her place. And Peyton will remember his role too.
“When will Peyton be back? Is he still with that woman?”
Iris was sensible, knowing exactly what her grandson was thinking.
“Wendy just started rehabilitation. It’s really tough for her,” Quinn said. “I know rehabilitation isn’t easy. It’s painful. I can understand that.
“I know you all came here for me today, but there’s no need to worry so much. Our relationship is strong enough to withstand outside interference.”
Quinn made her stance clear, explaining things plainly.
Iris approved of her words wholeheartedly. She truly liked Quinn. She was a sensible, intelligent woman.
“Quinn is right.” Iris nodded. “As long as you two have each other in your hearts, no one can come between you. I firmly believe that.
“I know you haven’t known each other for long, and your relationship will only grow stronger. You’ll keep getting better and better. I hope you’ll be happy forever.”
On the way over, Iris had worried the issue with Wendy would drive a wedge between them. But after seeing Quinn’s attitude, she felt much more at ease and even more satisfied with Quinn.
Finding such a reasonable woman to join their family was a blessing for the Reeds.
“Thank you, Mrs. Iris Reed,” Quinn said softly.
As they talked, Peyton walked in from outside. He’d specially arranged for someone to prepare meals for
them.
“Peyton! You finally decided to come home?” Eleanor snapped. “Do you know how long we’ve been waiting? We’re here because of you! I don’t mind you going to rehabilitation with that woman, but I won’t let it ruin your relationship with Quinn!”
She’d been furious that morning. No one could upset Quinn in her presence-that’s why she’d rushed over so angrily.
“Mom, you all know about Wendy and me,” Peyton replied calmly. “I only have one goal: to help her get better as soon as possible. That’s why I’ve been going with her every day.”

Peyton had long grown tired of dealing with Wendy. She was the last person he wanted to face. But he had no choice. Without his presence, she’d never stick to the training.
“Alright, Peyton, Doris said gently. “We understand your dilemma. Everyone here knows you’re a responsible man. We support you in this. I trust you’ll keep a clear boundary and draw the line with that
woman.
“Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. We didn’t just come for this. We also wanted to see you two. Besides, the engagement preparations are almost done. We can discuss the details together.
You’re both so busy with work, so we’ll handle most of the arrangements. But there are some things we want to talk to you about personally.”
Peyton knew perfectly well that they’d really come because of Wendy. As for the engagement, a phone call would’ve been enough. They didn’t need to make the trip in person.
Iris had probably come to check on them and get firsthand information about the situation.
Ever since the accident, Iris had been worried. She also felt guilty toward Wendy, always trying to find ways to make amends and help Peyton ease his guilt.
But after all these years, none of them had truly moved on from the incident. Even though the whole family had tried their best, they still couldn’t let go completely.
“Mom, stay here and rest today. I’ll make arrangements for you,” Peyton said. “Next time you come, please call in advance. This way, we won’t be caught off guard.”
