Quinn let out a soft laugh-there was relief in it, and a touch of self-mockery. It was as if she was laughing at her own foolishness back then, and at the unpredictability of the world.
“Don’t worry, Kieran. I’ve moved on. I won’t shed another tear over a guy like him,” she said. Her voice was quiet, but it carried unwavering resolve.
“Good. Come home sometime soon. Mom and Dad chewed me out because them last time you were back,” Kieran said.

“You know how Dad doted on you since you were little. He’s even more worried now that he knows you got hurt like this. He wanted to call, but he was scared he’d make you sad.”
There was a long silence on the other end—as if it stretched on like a journey through time and space. Finally, Quinn said, “I see.”
After hanging up, Quinn turned her gaze out the window. The passing scenery was like fragments of her past feelings, flashing before her eyes one by one.
She curled her lips in self-derision, her heart a jumble of emotions. Once, she’d thought happiness only came from mutual love. Now she understood: her parents’ judgment was like a precise ruler, already mapping out the path for her life.
By the time Quinn returned to the city, dusk had fallen.
She walked into the company, ready to tackle the work that had been put on hold because of her messy relationship.
As soon as she got out of the car, she ran into Lila walking out of the company gate. Lila held up her hand triumphantly, showing off to Quinn. “Look! Felix bought this ring for me. It’s one of a kind-custom-made just for me by a top designer.”
Quinn’s eyes fixed on the ring. The familiar pattern, along with the bracelet on Lila’s wrist- Felix had designed both for her once.
Back then, they’d been head over heels in love. They’d even planned to design a whole set of jewelry as a symbol of their future wedding. But now, all of that was just a broken dream.
Seven years of love, gone just like that-fragile as glass, shattering at the slightest touch.
Quinn scoffed, her voice dripping with sarcasm, “Well, congratulations. Trash deserves trash. Hope you two stick together forever and stop ruining other people’s lives.”

Lila’s face darkened, then she broke into a smug smile. “Quinn, you’re just jealous. After all, Felix is so kind, thoughtful, and smart.
Quinn kept her head down, focusing on her work. She didn’t even lift her eyes, responding coldly. “Congratulations, Mr. Cole. You finally got what you wanted.”
Felix frowned, confusion clouding his face. “What are you talking about? Quinn, you know
that’s not what I meant…”

Quinn suddenly looked up, a flash of irritation in her eyes. She cut him off sharply, “Whatever you meant, I’ll make sure to bring a nice gift. After all, we’ve known each other for so many years.”
