Chapter 153 The Shocking Secret

“Mom, what’s really going on? Did you know about this? Peyton stared at his mother, a mix of confusion and hurt in his voice.
Tears rolled down Eleanor’s cheeks. She’d never though this secret would resurface after all these years-let alone be exposed by Donna.
“Actually, I was already pregnant with you when I met your father,” she confessed, her voice trembling. “It was an arranged marriage. I had no choice but to agree.
“Your grandmother-my mom-told me to abort you before marrying your father. But I couldn’t bear to lose you, so I… hid the truth and kept you.
“The timing worked out perfectly, so I just…”
Eleanor felt a huge weight lift off her chest after speaking her truth. It was a relief she hadn’t known she needed.
Iris couldn’t process what she’d heard. It felt like a bolt from the blue.
She’d never imagined the grandson she’d doted on for years wasn’t even a Reed by blood. She clutched her chest, her face turning ashen.
Quinn was equally shocked. She never saw this coming. It would change everything for the entire family.
“Mrs. Iris Reed, are you okay?” Quinn rushed to her side, noticing her pale face. She quickly fetched Iris’ medication.
Iris took a heart pill. “I’m fine. Leave me be. I need to calm down.”
“Iris, if I hadn’t uncovered this, you’d all still be in the dark,” Donna said, unapologetic. “Now an outsider is in control of all Reed family assets. I think your eldest son should take over the company.”
Donna’s real motive was clear-seize the company and rive Peyton’s family out. She’d heard rumors from a friend about Eleanor’s relationship before marrying into the Reeds. Curious, she’d dug deeper, never expecting to find such explosive evidence.
“Iris is like this, and you’re still talking about this?” Eleanor snapped. “Can’t we handle this later?”
“You have no right to speak to me like that,” Donna shot back, her tone arrogant. “You’re all outsiders now. Peyton’s dad isn’t even in the country-he’s been gone for years. Are you just going to cling on here forever?”
Donna stood tall, feeling triumphant. She saw herself as the rightful heir’s wife, entitled to speak her mind.
“That’s enough! Can’t you all just shut up?” Iris slammed her cane repeatedly on the floor, her patience gone.
Peyton felt lost. He didn’t know if he belonged in the family anymore. Looking at Iris’ fragile state, he didn’t know how to face her.
Quinn pushed aside her own shock, focusing on calming Iris down first.
“Mrs. Iris Reed, let me help you upstairs to rest,” she said gently. Iris grabbed her hand tightly
The news was too sudden-too much to bear. In her younger years, she would have made a decision right

“Mrs. Reed, I know this is a shock,” Quinn said softly as they walked. “But whatever happens, you have to take care of yourself. You’re older now. Your body can’t take too much strain.”
“I know this might not be the best time to say this, but some things are better left to fate,” she added, trying to comfort Iris.
Iris had been through countless hardships in her life. Quinn trusted she’d make the right decision-one that aligned with her heart.
“Quinn, thank you. Having you here makes me happy,” ris said, her eyes filled with gratitude. She felt lucky to have such a caring young woman in her life.
Peyton had called her grandma for so many years, loving her sincerely. How could she bear to let him go?
But this wasn’t a decision to be made in the heat of the moment. She needed time to think-to calm down and weigh her options carefully.
