Chapter 161 A Temporary Truce

“Iris, what are you saying? Are you serious?” Donna exclaimed, completely devastated. “You’re giving all your life’s work to an outsider? Don’t you think people will laugh at our family for this?”
She couldn’t understand. She had no idea what Iris was hinking. But once Iris said something, she always followed through-there was no stopping her.
“You forced me to do this,” Iris said sharply. “This family has never pressured you into anything. I’ve always treated you well as long as you behaved. But you’ve gone too far!
“I don’t care what you think. This is my call. Go ahead and make a scene if you want!”
She was done wasting words on them-done letting the anger her.
Donna looked at Harold in despair. Harold’s mind went blank. He had no idea what to say to his mother.
“I’ve always acted sensibly. I have my own plans,” Iris continued. “No one can stop me!
“And I don’t care who laughs. Stop obsessing over it. If there’s nothing else, leave now.”
Iris couldn’t bear another word. Her health was deteriorating, her heart aching terribly.
“Iris, I…” Donna started.
“Enough! The family has abandoned us,” Harold snapped. “What’s the point of staying? Let’s go!”
Harold seemed to give up, not wanting to drag things out. But Donna’s personality wouldn’t let her swallow this insult.
She thought Iris’ decision was completely unfair.
Why should such a huge family fortune go to an outsider?
“Why are you pulling me out?” Donna complained fiercely as they left. “We haven’t solved anything! What if the company really goes to them? What will we do? Starve?”
“Mom is already like this-what good will arguing do?” Harold replied. “Can’t we think of another way?
Let’s go home and figure something out first. If we make Mom really sick and she signs that will, we’ll never get the company back!”
Harold still had some sense left. His analysis made sense
Donna calmed down slowly, realizing he might be right “What do you plan to do next?”
“If we want to kick him out of the company, we need to tart with the board of directors.” Harold said. “He’s not even our family anymore-he admitted it himself.o you think they’ll still accept him?
“It doesn’t matter if Mom wants him to stay. As long asalk to the board and offer them some benefits, they’ll agree with me!”
Harold had long been planning this. He knew Iris was subborn-her mind rarely changed
Continuing to make a scene at home would only hurt health. No matter what, she was his mother. He still felt a twinge of guilt.

Donna suddenly understood. “The board members arell old foxes. Do you really think they’ll listen to you?” she asked, still worried. “They recognize Peyton’s ability. He’s achieved so much for the company- they’ve all seen it.”
She wasn’t confident this would work.
“Don’t worry. I already have a plan,” Harold said firmly. Just trust me and do as I say.”
With that, Donna said no more. She had no choice but to try.
Meanwhile, Peyton let out a sigh of relief after they left. He was worried about Iris’ health above all else.
Iris had just been hospitalized. The doctors had specifically warned them not to let her get stressed again.
He was terrified she’d have another health scare from anger.
“Grandma, don’t lower yourself to their level. Don’t take it to heart,” Peyton said gently. “Your health is the most important thing. Everything else doesn’t matter.”
Iris nodded. “If I cared about what they thought, I would have kicked them out long ago. No matter what, he’s still my son-that’s a fact I can’t change.”
