“I raised them alone, working so hard,” Iris said sadly. “We stuck together when they were little. We were poor, but we were happy as a family.

“Now the family is more successful than ever. But look at what they’ve become. I really don’t understand- did I fail as a mother? Why did both my sons turn out this way?”

Iris felt deep shame. She’d thought having Harold by her side would give her companionship. Instead, he spent every day trying to anger her. Sometimes she wished she’d never had him.

“Grandma, money doesn’t fix everything,” Peyton said gently. “But you don’t need to blame yourself. Let things unfold naturally.”

What else could they do? Iris had given up on her two sons.

“Iris, they’re not worth your anger,” Eleanor added. “Family problems should be solved by talking. If it helps, Peyton can leave the company.”

“But I’m worried-can Harold run the company well? It your lifelong legacy,” she said sincerely.

Peyton wasn’t a Reed by blood. She would never pressure Iris to keep him in charge. But after all these years, their bond with Iris was strong. Eleanor cared for her like a real mother.

Sometimes, love was stronger than blood.

“Let’s drop this unpleasant topic,” Iris said firmly. “My decision won’t change. I’ve never seen Peyton as an outsider-not for a single day!”

She didn’t want to talk about it anymore. They’d spent too much time on this drama, and she feared it would damage her relationship with Peyton.

“You don’t need to stay with me. Go back to work. There’s so much waiting for you at the company,” she urged.

“Remember, I’m always here for you. Call me right away if you need anything. I’ll always have your back.”

Iris’ words gave Peyton a sense of security. Her support was all he needed.

The company was in chaos. Everyone had their own agendas. Peyton knew this would be a long, tough battle.

He’d never faced anything like this before. He lacked experience, but he was determined to see it through. Problems always had solutions.

“Thank you, Grandma. I’ll leave Mom here with you. I need to get back to the company.” Peyton said. checking his watch.

It was getting late, and he had a lot of work to handle. I needed to go right away.

“Don’t carry everything alone,” Iris warned. “You’ll burn ut. I know those people-they’re not easy to deal with. Promise me you’ll ask for help?”

She knew Peyton too well. He always kept his troubles himself, never sharing his worries.

“I promise, Grandma,” Peyton smiled. “You’re my rock. Of course I’ll call you first. I know you can fix

He didn’t mean it. He didn’t want to burden her. He only wanted her to live comfortably at home.

Iris was already so old. She shouldn’t have to worry about company matters. The thought filled him with guilt.

“Go on, then. Get to work,” Iris said, trusting him.

As soon as Peyton left, he headed straight for Reed Group. He was sure everyone was waiting for him. They all knew about his family drama by now.
