Chapter 172 I’ll Stand by Him

The project decision was made after Kieran discussed it with his parents. Everyone agreed unanimously to hand the project over to Peyton. This was his toughest time yet, and as family, they were more than willing to pull out all the stops to help him.

What’s more, Kieran planned to transfer his five-percent stake in the company to Peyton, just to help him get through this crisis. Right now, the two of them were hammering out the details of their partnership, figuring out how to make this project a resounding success.

When they got to the restaurant, Peyton had barely sat down when his phone rang. It was someone from the company, calling to discuss urgent business matters.

As soon as he stepped away to take the call, Quinn couldn’t hold back her questions any longer. “Kieran, what’s the real reason you’re here? Is something wrong with the company? You two are hiding something from me, aren’t you?”

She’d had a nagging feeling that something was off from the start. Kieran never traveled to this city unless it was for something important. Clearly, this trip wasn’t just to see her.

“I told you-we’re partnering on a project. That’s why I’m here,” Kieran said, keeping his tone steady. “It’s a huge project. We had to meet in person to hash things out. Stop worrying so much. We’ll handle whatever comes up.”

He didn’t want to burden Quinn with this stress. He and Peyton would shoulder the load themselves. Besides, even if she knew the truth, there wasn’t much she could do to help.

Telling her would only make her more anxious and upset.

“He’s been exhausted these past few weeks, buried in work,” Quinn said softly, her voice laced with concern. “The family drama blew up, but he never once complained. He even offered to step down from the company-just to put his grandma’s mind at ease.

“He’s been under enormous pressure, facing down everyone alone. People at the company are talking behind his back, I just know it. Even the ones who used to follow his every order? They’re probably seething with resentment now. His position has always been covered by so many.”

Quinn could’ve easily looked up the details herself. She knew exactly what Peyton was up against. To solidify his place at the company, he had to prove himself to every last doubter.

Iris still had his back, of course. She supported him unconditionally. But she was getting on in years. Her word alone wasn’t enough to fix everything anymore.

Once, everyone would’ve jumped to obey her every command. Now? They barely paid her any mind.

“He’ll sort things out. And I’m here to help him,” Kieran cassured her. “So stop fretting over him. Just focus on your own work, and we’ll be at ease.”

Kieran had never approved of Quinn’s patent business. was never going to make much money, and it required endless hours of tedious data work.

But every time he tried to talk her out of it, they’d end up arguing. Quinn was stubborn-she wanted a career of her own, doing something she loved. In the e, Kieran gave up trying to stop her.

If it made her happy, then so be it.

“I know you two are keeping something from me,” Quinn sighed. “But if you’re not going to tell me, fine. It’s just company stuff anyway.”

Quinn hadn’t always been like this. She used to never waste her time overthinking things. Her family had always protected her, shielding her from all these worries.

But things were different now.

She’d become so much more sensitive lately. She noticed everything around her, tucked every little detail away in her mind. And she worried-quietly, but deeply

Seeing Quinn like this twisted Kieran’s heart. He’d always thought he’d found the perfect man for her. He’d hoped they’d spend the rest of their lives happy and carefree.

But shortly after they got engaged, the news broke that Peyton wasn’t a real Reed. Thank goodness Iris recognized his talent and character. She knew exactly what kind of man he was.
