Chapter 184 Heart-Stopping News

“No need to be so polite with me,” Peyton said with a faint smile.

They wrapped up their conversation and got ready to head out for dinner.

But just as they were about to leave the house, Peyton’s phone started ringing.

He pulled it out and glanced at the caller ID-it was the housekeeper from Reed Manor.

“Mr. Reed,” the housekeeper’s voice crackled through the line, frantic. “Your uncle’s family showed up a while ago. They came to see Mrs. Iris Reed, but they started arguing with her about company management again. Mrs. Iris Reed got so upset she had a fall-out with them. Now she’s really sick, but she refuses to let us call the family doctor. Please come home right away.”

“Got it. I’m on my way,” Peyton replied sharply.

He hung up the phone and rushed toward the door without a second thought. He’d never expected Iris to take another turn for the worse. She was getting on in years, and every stressful episode took a brutal toll on her fragile body.

“What’s wrong with Mrs. Iris Reed?” Quinn asked, her voice laced with worry as she overheard the call.

Her blood boiled just thinking about Harold’s family.

They are getting more and more outrageous by the day. No matter what, Irisis Harold’s mother. How could they be so cruel to her?

Quinn had been trying to wrap her head around this question for weeks. She had no clue what those people were really after.

“Let’s head over there first and see what’s going on,” Peyton said, grabbing his coat.

They raced to Reed Manor as fast as they could. When they burst through the door, they found Iris lying in bed, gasping for breath.

Peyton’s heart dropped. He sprinted to her side, his voice tight with frustration and concern. “Grandma, you’re in this state and no one thought to call me soone? We’re taking you to the hospital-now.”

His tone was sharp, bordering on scolding, but his hand trembled as he brushed a strand of hair off her forehead. He hated seeing her like this.

Sometimes, he wished he could just walk away from the company entirely. Let Harold’s family have everything they wanted. None of it mattered as long as is was safe and healthy.

“Don’t make such a fuss, dear,” Iris said weakly, waving a hand at him. “I’m fine. I already took my medicine. The company’s not doing well these days-I know that. You need to get back to work and handle things. Don’t worry about me.”

Even on her sickbed, her mind was still on the company She cared deeply about its future, and she refused to let it fall apart on her watch.

“Grandma, I’ll take care of the company-I promise,” Peton said firmly, his eyes locked on hers. “But today. you are going to the hospital for a full check-up. No argments.”

He wasn’t backing down. Nothing would stop him from getting her the medical care she needed.

“Yes, Mrs. Reed,” Quinn chimed in, squeezing Iris’ hand gently. “We’ll be so worried if you don’t go. None of us can leave here feeling at ease until we know you’re okay. Just come with us to the hospital. If everything checks out, we’ll all breathe a sigh of relief.”

Quinn hated seeing her in such a frail state. She looked even worse than she had a few days ago. Iris had just recovered from major surgery not long ago. She couldnt handle all this stress-it was too much for her.

“Alright, alright,” Iris sighed, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “I know you two mean well. Fine. I’ll go to the hospital with you.”

Her heart felt warm, knowing she had Peyton and Quinn by her side through everything. But she hated being a burden to them. She didn’t want to add to their worries.

“Mrs. Reed, you can barely talk without running out of breath,” Quinn said, grinning. “You definitely need to get checked out. Besides, who’s going to help us keep the company in line if something happens to you?”
