Peyton had been thinking about this for a long time. Held wanted to step away from the company for ages. Truth was, he didn’t care about the power or the fortune He’d only stayed to help Iris sort out the mess.
But now, it was clear his family situation wouldn’t let him stick around any longer.
“Alright,” Quinn said softly. “I respect your decision. I’ll back you up no matter what you choose. But I don’t think your grandma will agree to this. Her health is already so fragile from all the stress. If you leave the company, she’ll worry herself sick every single day.”
Quinn always thought things through carefully. She saw all the angles.
“I’ll find the right time to talk to her about it,” Peyton replied. “But right now, her health is the most urgent issue. Nothing else matters more than that.
“I’ve already arranged a consultation with the top heart specialists from home and abroad. They’ll be here tomorrow to see her.”
Peyton refused to give up. He’d spent the past few days reaching out to the best doctors in the field, determined to find a way to help Iris.
Her condition was critical, and he’d done his research. He knew exactly how serious her heart problem was.
Quinn understood he was doing this all out of love for is. She would have done the same-would have moved heaven and earth to make Iris well again.
Seeing Iris like this tore Quinn’s heart apart. Ever since he’d joined the family, it felt like there had been one crisis after another.
Iris’ health had been so much better before all this drama started. Now, it had taken a sharp turn for the
worse.
Quinn couldn’t wrap her head around it.
How could Iris’ own children treat her this way? Why couldn they be more understanding? Are money and power really more important than family?
But she supposed this was common in wealthy families-greed and infighting tearing loved ones apart.
After they finished talking, they headed back to Iris’ hospital room. She was already awake, propped up against the pillows.
“Why are you two still here?” she asked, her voice weak at sharp. “I told you I’m fine. You dragged me all the way to this hospital for nothing. Home is so much more comfortable than this place.”
Iris hated hospitals with a passion. They made her feel tapped and uneasy.
“Mrs. Reed, your body needs time to recover,” Quinn sal gently, sitting down beside her and taking her hand. “The doctors said you’re doing okay, but you need to stay for a couple more days of observation. Then we can take you home.”
Looking at Iris’ gaunt face, Quinn felt a lump form in her throat. It hurt to see her so frail.
“I know my own body better than anyone,” Iris retorted. I’m already this old. I don’t want to be tossed around like this anymore. I can handle a little discomfort. At least at home, I can relax.”

“Grandma, I know you’ve been feeling miserable,” Peyton said, leaning over the bed. “That’s why I arranged for the specialists to come tomorrow. Let them take a look. It’ll put my mind at ease.”
He was determined to get her the best care possible. He just wanted her to be healthy again-happy and safe at home, where she belonged.
“Peyton, I know you’re doing this for me,” Iris said, her voice softening. “I know you care about me more than anything. But I’m not young anymore. All these trips to the hospital wear me out. I just don’t have the energy for it.
“You two have busy lives. You don’t need to waste your time on an old woman like me. Go on with your work. Don’t worry about me. I have my private doctor. I can call him if I feel unwell.”
Iris was touched by their devotion, but she truly didn’t want to be a burden to them any longer.
But Peyton couldn’t let her give up-not when her condition was this serious. He just couldn’t live with himself if he didn’t try everything.
“Grandma, I promise this is the last time,” he pleaded. “Your heart never fully recovered after the surgery. Just give this one more chance.”
Seeing them go back and forth, Quinn jumped in to help. “Yes, Mrs. Reed. Your health isn’t where it should be. We need to fix this so you can spend the rest of your days relaxing at home, nice and comfortable.
“Do it for us, please. Just hold on through tomorrow. After that, we won’t push you to see any more doctors.”
Iris always listened to Quinn. She adored her and valued her opinion more than anyone else’s.
“Since you’re asking me, Quinn,” Iris sighed, giving in. “Ill see the specialists tomorrow. But this is the last time. If there’s nothing they can do, I’m done. I know my condition is incurable. I’ve lived a long life. I’m ready to accept it.”
