Donna listened to her husband’s plan. She thought about it for a minute. It actually made sense. She nodded her head in agreement.
“Fine. But what if your brother Brandon doesn’t come back? Then we’ll have wasted our time for nothing.” she said, voicing her concern.
“He’ll come back. I’m sure of it,” Harold replied confidently. He pulled out his phone and dialed Brandon Reed’s number-Peyton’s father.
“Hey, Brandon. I haven’t called lately because things have been crazy at home,” Harold started, his tone fake with worry. “I didn’t want to bother you. I wanted you to enjoy your life abroad. I know things have been good for you there.
“But Mom’s health is failing. She can’t run the company anymore. And guess what? She handed it over to an outsider. A guy who isn’t even your son. If he were your kid, I’d have no problem with it. It wouldn’t matter who’s in charge-family is family.”
“The whole family’s falling apart. You need to come home and fix this. If we work together, we can make the company great again. Mom will be so happy to see you, he added, laying it on thick.
He told Brandon everything-every detail of the mess back home.
“Harold! Why didn’t you tell me this sooner? He’s not my biological son? No wonder we never got along when he was a kid,” Brandon snapped, his voice boiling with anger.
He’d never imagined this. He’d been living abroad for years, having forgotten all about his family back home. But this? His wife had cheated on him. He’d raised another man’s son for
years.
Worse yet, that kid had paraded around as a Reed family heir-strutting through their social circle like he owned the place. It made Brandon’s blood boil.
Brandon was selfish and irresponsible. He didn’t care much about his family. But this? This was too much. He had to get even.
“I’m so sorry, Brandon. I’m furious too,” Harold said, feining sympathy.
“This is about our family’s honor. We raised that kid for years. What did we get out of it?
“Mom’s lost her mind. She’s like she’s under some spellrom Peyton and Eleanor. She won’t let anyone else run the company-even me,” he complained.
“That’s why I called you. We need to stick together. We have to take back what’s ours. We can’t let outsiders steal it,” Harold urged.
“Mom worked her whole life to build this company. It’s her legacy. How can we let a stranger run it? Everyone’s laughing at our family right now,” he added, hitting all the right buttons.
“Don’t worry, Harold. I won’t let this slide,” Brandon said firmly. “I never wanted to get involved in family drama. I didn’t care about Mom’s estate. But now? I have to come home.”
“I’ll book the earliest flight. We’ll figure this out together he promised. They hung up, both determined to take back the company. Brandon had to come home-i only to get revenge for the betrayal.
Brandon and Eleanor were separated, but not divorced. They hadn’t spoken in years-total strangers now.

Meanwhile, Peyton and Quinn left the hospital and hea ed home. They talked about Iris the whole way.
“Your grandma’s mental state is getting worse,” Quinn said softly. “She seems like she’s hiding something. She’s not the same as before.”
“Why do Harold and Donna keep making her mad? What do they get out of it?” she asked, confused and
