“Is the company really that important?” Quinn asked, her voice laced with frustration. “More important than his own mother? Your grandma’s so old now. Shouldn’t they just let her spend her remaining days happy?”

Quinn couldn’t wrap her head around Harold and Donna’s mindset. But she knew she was an outsider. If she tried to meddle, things would only get worse. She never voiced these thoughts in front of anyone else- only to Peyton.

“People as selfish as them don’t care about any of that,” Peyton said coldly. “If they did, we wouldn’t be in this mess. And Grandma wouldn’t have had to cut them off so completely.”

Iris’ heart had been broken long ago. She’d had no other choice but to be ruthless with them.

Quinn sighed, helpless. There was nothing she could do to fix it.

It was late by the time they got home. Quinn’s mind drifted to Kieran. She wondered how things were going between him and Hazel. She’d been worrying about it nonstop for days.

After thinking it over, she picked up her phone and called him.

“Hey, Kieran. Where are you right now? Is it a good time to talk?”

She was afraid he might be with Hazel, so she asked first

“Yeah, go ahead,” Kieran replied flatly.

His mood was lousy because of everything that had happened. He and Hazel hadn’t seen each other in three days.

“How’ve you been feeling about everything lately?” Quinn asked gently. “Have you figured out where you stand with her? Even if you don’t want to break up, I think you need to be honest with her about what you know. Otherwise, this will just fester in your heart forever.

“If you can, I really think you two should sit down and talk it out openly.”

Quinn had been turning this over in her mind for days, rying to figure out the best way for them to move forward.

“We haven’t met up in a while,” Kieran said, his voice hevy. “The last time we saw each other, I tried to hint around about her past. But she didn’t tell me anything. he didn’t even plan to.

“I’m stuck. I don’t know how to act around her now that know the truth. I can’t pretend like nothing’s wrong. But I’m terrified of ruining our relationship because of my own issues.”

Kieran had never felt this torn before. He’d never cared about something this deeply. He had no idea how to handle it-no clue how to face Hazel.

It had been years since he’d been in a serious relationsh. He didn’t know how to love someone anymore, let alone navigate something this complicated.

“I’m so sorry, Kieran,” Quinn said, guilt washing over he “If you’d never found out about all this, you wouldn’t be suffering like this. It’s all my fault. I never should’ve looked into her past in the first place.”

She hated seeing her brother this upset.

“I know you did it for me,” Kieran said softly. “I know you’ve been hurt in relationships before. You didn’t want me to go through the same thing. So you checked up on her. That’s not a mistake.

“Finding out now is way better than finding out after we get married. That will be a total disaster. I’m just stuck on whether I should come clean with her or not.
