“I raised you two all by myself-fed you, clothed you, worked myself to the bone for this family!” Iris snapped, her voice trembling with heartbreak. “And this is what I get? I’m so ashamed I ever had you. Sometimes I wish I’d let you starve when you were kids!
She’d never spoken so cruelly before. But their greed had pushed her to the edge. She had no patience left for their nonsense.
“If you’re only here to upset me, congratulations. You get what you wanted. Now get out!” she shouted. “No matter what you say or do, I’m not giving you the company. You can kill me with your bickering. I’ll take this decision to my grave!”
She paused, her eyes sweeping over the room, making sure everyone was listening. “Since you’re all here, I’ll make this official. I already wrote my will. It’s legally binding. The second I die, it goes into effect.”
Iris had always been a planner. She’d taken care of her estate paperwork months ago, had it notarized and locked away. She’d never told anyone. She didn’t want them salivating over her money before she was even
gone.
“Mom, I came back to see you,” Brandon said, putting on a fake sorrowful face. “Taking over the company was just a way to help you out. I dropped everything overseas when I heard about the family trouble. I can’t believe you’re treating me like this.
“Harold told me on the phone you were choosing an outsider over your own sons. I didn’t believe him. I thought you were better than that. But now? He was right. We should be sticking together, not fighting each other!”
He spoke with fake sincerity, painting himself as the selfless hero. But everyone in the room could see through his act.
“I’ve been deathly ill for months-getting worse every day!” Iris shot back, her voice rising. “Where were you then? You didn’t call. You didn’t visit. Did you just wait around for me to die?”
Her words were like daggers. She had no kindness left for the sons who’d abandoned her.
“Mom, we’d never hurt you!” Brandon pleaded, his voice cracking. “I didn’t call because I thought you hated me. I thought you’d never forgive me for leaving.
“I missed you every day these years. I missed Harold too I never forgot how we stuck together when we were kids-how we had nothing but each other.” He paused, pretending to wipe away a tear. “I’m getting older now. I find myself thinking about those days more and more.
“We were poor back then, but we were happy. Look at us now-our family’s falling apart. This isn’t right.
“I don’t want our home to end up like this. And I definitely don’t want it handed over to a stranger. This company is your life’s work. Can you really let an outsider take it? Your own sons can run it-we’re capable!
“Harold’s got a quick temper, I’ll admit. He says things he doesn’t mean sometimes. But he’s always had the family’s best interest at heart!”
Brandon laid it on thick, making his case sound reasonable. But it was clear he and Harold had planned this speech ahead of time-they’d come prepared to fight for the company.
Peyton watched in silence, his chest tight with sadness. He didn’t know what to say to them.

He felt like an outsider in the family he’d grown up in. nce, he would’ve spoken up without hesitation. But now? He felt powerless-like he didn’t belong in this argument.
“I know exactly who to leave the company to. I don’t need lessons from you-especially not about family loyalty,” Iris said coldly. “I heard you have kids now. You built a whole new life overseas, didn’t you?
“You forgot about me a long time ago. If you really care, you would’ve come home years ago. Spare me the lies.
