“Don’t worry, Grandma. I’ll give this my all,” Peyton said firmly. “I promise I won’t let anything go wrong with the company.”
He was confident in his abilities. But in this family, he felt like an outsider with no right to speak up.
There were days he wanted to walk away-leave everything behind and cut ties with them for good. But he’d grown up in this family. No matter how broken things got, he couldn’t fully sever the bond.
He was torn, unsure how to navigate this messy relation hip.
Watching Harold and Brandon fight over the company made his heart ache for Iris. Now he understood. why her health was declining so rapidly.
“I’m going to rest now,” Iris said, her voice worn out. “I’ve made everything clear today. You two figure out your own paths. If you want to visit me, I won’t stop you But if you’re only here to take the company? Don’t even bother.”
With that, she signaled to the maid, who wheeled her back into her bedroom. She had no desire to waste another minute on their nonsense.
Quinn and Peyton exchanged looks. There was no point in staying-their presence would only fuel more arguments, especially with Eleanor still there. They decided to leave before things got worse.
Peyton led Quinn and Eleanor toward the door, but Harold called out, stopping them in their tracks.
“Peyton, I heard you were gonna give up the company voluntarily,” Harold said, his tone sharp. “Smart move. You have some decency left. This company will never be yours. Mom might say it is, but you’re an outsider. We’re taking back what’s ours!”
His words left no room for negotiation.
Peyton turned to him, a cold smirk playing on his lips. “You think I even want this company? Grandma only gave it to me because you two aren’t capable of running it.
“Do you really think you could handle it if she handed it over to you?”
He wasn’t trying to belittle them. He simply didn’t take them seriously. If they took control, the company would crumble in no time.
Peyton knew Iris wouldn’t have made this decision if there was any hope for her sons. She was fair-she would’ve given them the company if they’d proven themselves worthy. Even if he were her biological grandson, she wouldn’t have chosen him over her own children if they’d been capable.
Iris was a woman of principle. Her choice made it clear Harold and Brandon weren’t even in the running.
“That’s none of your business,” Brandon snapped. “This s our family’s company. It has nothing to do with
You’d better focus on your own life.
you.
“You’ve got years of experience running this place. Any ompany would hire you in a second. Start thinking about your future instead of ours.”
Brandon’s words were harsh, deliberately meant to provoke.
“Grandma made her decision. I’m only following her or lers,” Peyton replied calmly,

He never wanted to be caught up in this mess. But Iris had refused to let him step down. He had no choice but to keep going, even if it meant dealing with their constant attacks.
“You really think she gave you the company because she trusts you? Because she thinks you’re talented?” Brandon scoffed.
