“Quinn, everyone needs time to heal,” Hazel said softly, her tone firm. “Breaking up with Kieran hurt. But what’s done is done. People move on-life has to go forward.”
Her words sounded kind, but her resolve was unshakable. It was clear she’d made up her mind. No amount of pleading would change it.
Quinn couldn’t understand.
Has she really lost all feeling for Kieran? Her eyes tell a different story-there’s pain there, regret. So why is she pushing him away?
“Hazel, you have to let go of the past,” Quinn urged. “Living like this is only torturing yourself. And I’m to blame for all this. If it weren’t for me, Kieran would’ve never found out.”
“Peyton noticed something different about you. He wanted to investigate, and I didn’t stop him. Kieran had nothing to do with it,” she confessed, her voice heavy with guilt. “I need to be honest with you. I want you two to be together-truly together.”
She’d held back long enough. Now that things had come to this, the truth needed to be told-even if it didn’t change anything.
“It doesn’t matter who dug into my past,” Hazel said quietly. “The facts are the same. I don’t care anymore. But Kieran knows now. I can’t stand the thought of him seeing the ugly parts of my past. I’d never be able to look him in the eye again. So this is for the best-we’re over.”
Her decision was final. She feared that if they got back together, this secret would hang over their relationship forever. Every fight, every disagreement, would bring it up again. She couldn’t live with that weight.
“Hazel, Kieran is an amazing man-kind and gentle,” Quinn insisted. “He can heal your wounds. He cant make your future brighter. Don’t give up on him just because he knows your past.”
“Do you really want to spend the rest of your life alone?” she pressed. “You two are perfect together values, same personalities. Throwing that away over this? It’s not worth it.”
Quinn spoke from the heart. Seeing Hazel so closed off broke her. If she’d known this would h never have let Peyton investigate.
But it was too late. The damage was done. Hazel’s heart was closed off, and no amount of words cou it again.
“Please, stop,” Hazel said, her voice weary. “I know you’re trying to help. But this is our decision to make. We can’t go back.”
Her face was pale, her eyes filled with confusion. Quinn could tell she was torn-part of her still cared, still longed for Kieran. But fear was holding her back.
“Let me tell you a story,” Quinn sighed. “If you still feel the same way after hearing it, I’ll drop it. You’ll never hear from me about this again.”
She didn’t want to push Hazel further. It wouldn’t be fai Quinn and Kieran weren’t the type to cling-they respected other people’s choices, even if they hurt.
“Kieran dated someone once. It’s a topic we never talk all out in our family-off-limits,” Quinn began. “You
