Quinn bit her lower lip hard, forcing the words out through gritted teeth. Her cool, composed

face masked unshakable resolve.

Felix stared at her determined eyes, his own flickering with confusion. The woman in front of him felt like a stranger. Was this really the same Quinn he’d once known?

Had all their feelings for each other vanished without a trace?

A sharp pain stabbed at his chest.

But in the next second, he snapped back to his senses. Ethan was still waiting for him in the conference room.

From the look in Quinn’s eyes and the tone of her voice, he knew-she would never agree to help him, no matter what he said.

“Quinn, are you really gonna push me to the edge?!” Felix snarled, his face turning red with rage, veins bulging on his forehead.

“You brought this on yourself. No one else is to blame,” Quinn shot back, then turned and walked away without a second glance.

Thank goodness she’d found out about the patents in time. Otherwise, all her hard work-all those late nights she’d spent developing them-would have been handed over to someone else for free.

“Quinn, wait! Please, just do this for me! Go talk to Mr. Lewis and clear this up!” Felix begged, desperation creeping into his voice.

“Please… just say yes…”

He lost all control, darting in front of her and blocking the door, refusing to let her leave.

“Move out of my way!” Quinn’s eyes turned icy cold, her voice sharp as frost.

Felix shook his head violently. “No! I’m not letting you go until you agree! I—”

“There’s no need for that, Felix.”

Ethan had walked out of the conference room, his stance firm and unyielding. “If I hadn’t come here in person today, I never would’ve realized what a scam this was. You stole someone else’s patents and tried to use them as leverage for our deal. You played me for a fool. I’ll never do business with a man like you.”

Felix’s face turned ashen. He scrambled to save the deal, panic written all over his face. “Mr. Lewis, it’s just a misunderstanding between Quinn and me! She’s upset with me, that’s why this happened! I promise, I can fix this-”

“Save your breath. I’m not interested,” Ethan cut him off, clearly annoyed and ready to leave.

He turned to Quinn, his expression softening into a friendly smile. “Miss Hart, I’m very impressed with your patents. I’d love to discuss a partnership with you-developing those patents together. Here’s my card. Feel free to call me anytime if you’re interested.”

Quinn took the card quickly, returning his smile with a confident one of her own. “Thank for your trust, Mr. Lewis. I’ll definitely consider it.”

Ethan nodded, then turned and walked away.

Felix chased after him, pleading, but it was obvious his words were falling on deaf ears.

He watched helplessly as Ethan and his team stepped into the elevator and disappeared. His face drained of all color, and he kicked the wall hard in frustration, his whole body trembling with rage.

“Quinn! Are you happy now?!” He whipped around, glaring at her with pure hatred, his emotions completely unhinged.

Happy?

“My pleasure, ma’am. Mr. Reed instructed me to tell you that you can reach out to me directly for anything you need,” the waiter replied.

Peyton Reed?

Quinn was caught off guard for a moment, then nodded politely. “Thank you.”

“I’ll leave you to enjoy your meal then. Have a nice day.”

The waiter left the room quietly, not wanting to disturb them

further.

Just as he closed the door, Quinn’s phone rang. It was Peyton.

“Did you like the lunch?” His voice was as calm and steady as ever, but there was a warm undercurrent of concern in it.

Quinn took a bite of the steak. It was perfectly cooked-juicy and flavorful.

“I love it. Thank you,” she said, her tone still a little formal.

“Don’t be so polite with me,” Peyton said gently. “If there’s anything you don’t like, just tell the hotel staff and they’ll fix it right away.”

“I heard about what happened at the company today,” he added, his voice calm but powerful, like a quiet promise. “Next time something like this comes up, you can come to me directly. No need to go through all the trouble of asking other people for help.”
