Chapter 23 Wishful Thinking

Forshed

Mia hurried into the office, shaking her head as she approached Quinn. “Miss Hart, the Coles are absolutely insane. They just won’t let go! It’s so infuriating!”

“Heh. They won’t be laughing for much longer,” Quinn said coolly. “That idiot Felix still thinks everything I do is about him. What a joke.”

“Exactly! That scumbag doesn’t deserve to lick the dirt off your shoes!” Mia huffed.

Quinn laughed. “Oh, you’re laying it on thick-but you’re not wrong.”

Mia’s eyes lit up, and she grinned from ear to ear. It looked like Quinn had really moved on from Felix for good. That was the best news ever.

Quinn checked the time. “I need to get back to wrapping up work. If anyone else asks to see me, tell them to come back another day.”

When Diana stormed back home, she found Felix sitting on the couch, staring into space like a lost soul.

“Felix, what’s wrong with you?” she asked, hurrying over to him, her voice laced with concern.

Felix looked up, his eyes hollow. “Mom… do you think… Quinn really means to leave me for good?”

“Why else would she be so cruel? She took all her stuff and left. And now she’s destroyed the company like it’s nothing.”

“Does she hate me that much?”

Diana’s blood boiled all over again when she heard that.

What does that little tramp have that is so special? How dare she turn my son into this listless mess?

Her eyes narrowed as a devious plan formed in her mind. She patted Felix’s hand reassuringly. “You two have been together for seven years. Haven’t you had fights before? She loves throwing tantrums to get attention.

“She’s just jealous because you’ve been spending time with Lila lately. She’s trying to teach you a lesson, that’s all.”

“Really?” Felix perked up, a glimmer of hope flickering in his eyes.

“Of course it’s true!” Diana said firmly. “Think about it-why else would she rush to the hospital when she heard I was sick? She was trying to make a good impression on me, to make sure you wouldn’t give up on her completely.”

Diana let out a scoff. “Please-like that little trick could fool me?”

A spark of excitement lit up in Felix’s gaze.

Maybe my mom is right! Maybe I’ve fallen for Quinn’s scheme, which is why I’ve been acting so out of character-why I’ve even considered begging her for forgiveness.

“Mom, what should I do now?” he asked eagerly. “Quinn already ruined our biggest partnership. If this keeps up, the company might be in serious trouble!”

“Okay! I know you are the best, Felix!” Lila exclaimed, throwing her arms around him joyfully.

Their bodies pressed against each other. Felix put his arms around her slim waist, his eyes lingering on her blushing cheeks-she looked absolutely enchanting. His heart skipped a beat.

With such a sweet “sister” and a beautiful girlfriend who loved him deeply, he was truly living the dream.

“Felix, we’ve always been this close, right?” Lila said softly, her tone innocent. “I never thought Quinn would mind so much. I can’t believe she threw such a big fit out of jealousy-she even made Diana angry and messed up the

company.”

“Maybe I should go apologize to Diana on Quinn’s behalf,” she offered, pretending to be kind. “I’m sure she didn’t mean it. She just loves you too much.”

“But Quinn was so impulsive. She didn’t even think about the consequences. Look at you- you’ve lost weight from running around for the company these past few days.”

Lila’s voice was sweet and caring, seemingly worried about Felix’s health. But between the lines, she was secretly badmouthing Quinn.

To Felix, though, Lila just sounded sweet and obedient. What’s more, he knew she’d been hit hard too-her chance at getting her degree had gone up in smoke when Quinn took back the patents. Lila had been heartbroken, yet she’d never complained once.

How generous and understanding she is.

Felix couldn’t help but feel even fonder of her.
