Chapter 24 An Awkward Encounter

“Quinn really has no sense of propriety,” Felix muttered. “If she were half as sensible as you, I wouldn’t be this stressed out.”

“Hehe, don’t worry, Felix. I’ll always be considerate of you,” Lila smiled.

Felix felt even more at ease. He took Lila’s hand and they headed into the mall together.

As fate would have it, Quinn wasn’t at the company that day either. She’d had enough of all the chaos lately and decided to give herself a day off. She’d brought Mia along to go shopping with her.

“My old jewelry is starting to look a bit worn out. I want to pick out some new pieces,” Quinn said.

“Yes! Miss Hart, it’s about time you spoiled yourself!” Mia gushed. “You’re so beautiful-why should you settle for less?”

Quinn laughed helplessly. “You’re such a smooth talker. You really know how to boost my mood.”

“Of course I do!”

They chatted and laughed as they walked into the mall, heading straight for their favorite jewelry store. They started browsing the displays.

Soon, Quinn’s eyes landed on a necklace. It was a stunning crystal-clear blue, like the calm, deep ocean-absolutely eye-catching.

She asked the clerk to show it to her. She loved it even more up close and was about to try it on when someone interrupted her.

“Felix! That necklace is so pretty! I love it!”

“You like it? Then I’ll buy it for you,” came a familiar, annoying voice.

Quinn’s smile vanished instantly.

“Oh no, Felix,” Lila said, feigning surprise. “It looks like someone picked it out first. What do we do?”

“If you want it, no one else can have it,” Felix said arrogantly, striding into the store.

Then he saw Quinn.

The smile froze on his face. He’d never expected to run into her here.

Chapter 24 An Awkward Leiter

“You…”

“What a coincidence,” Mia muttered under her breath.

Felix’s expression turned even stiffer. He frowned slightly. “Quinn? You’re here too. Don’t tell me you followed us on purpose.”

“Get over yourself. Do you really think you’re that important?” Quinn rolled her eyes in disgust. It had only been a day, and he’d gotten even more narcissistic than before.

“Guess I just have the worst luck.”

Quinn wanted to roll her eyes so hard they’d get stuck. There was no trace of the old heartache left in her-only a deep, burning sense of absurdity. Felix was ridiculous. And the girl who’d once loved him with all her heart? She’d been even more ridiculous. How had she ever been so blind? So stupid?

“You-!” Felix’s face turned red with rage, but he forced himself to calm down. He still thought this was all just a tantrum. She was mad because she’d caught him with Lila, that’s all.

“Was there any jewelry you liked just now? I’ll buy it for you. A peace offering,” he said, trying to sound magnanimous.

“I don’t want it.”

Quinn wasn’t falling for that. When a man like Felix suddenly got nice? He was definitely up to something.

“What’s that supposed to mean? I’m in a good mood and offering you a gift, and you’re turning it down? Are you serious, Quinn?”

“Do you think I can’t afford to buy my own stuff? I don’t need your charity.”

Quinn rolled her eyes, then picked up the blue necklace she’d been eyeing earlier.

Lila’s face flickered with irritation, but she quickly masked it with a sweet, reluctant smile. “Great taste, Quinn! What a coincidence-we both picked the same necklace. It’s absolutely stunning. It would look perfect on you.

“Since you like it so much, I’ll let you have it. Felix, buy it for Quinn, please?” She tugged on his sleeve, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. Quinn almost laughed out loud. Only a brainless idiot like Felix could fall for this act.
