“Just say that’s the reason,” Kieran said. “I still can’t stop worrying about you. If Mom and Dad found out I let you deal with all this alone, they’d chew me out for sure.”
“Hahaha! So you’re only coming because you’re scared of getting yelled at? I really overestimated you.” Quinn laughed, her mood lightening up completely.
Kieran felt his face burn with embarrassment. He pretended to be angry. “I warn you-keep talking like that, and I won’t come at all!”
“No, don’t do that! Please come. I actually really need you right now, I mean it!” Quinn begged, holding back her laughter.
Kieran snorted, “That’s more like it. Alright, wait for me. I’ll head over as soon as I finish what I’m working on.”
Quinn agreed happily, a warm feeling spreading through her chest.
It’s true-family are always the ones who care about you the most.
She finally realized how stupid she’d been in the past, ignoring her family for a man who didn’t deserve her.
That night, Quinn returned to the hotel. She lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. She’d developed a faint crush on Peyton, even though they’d never met. She even thought about buying him a gift in return.
But a man like Peyton probably had everything he could ever want. Picking out a gift for him wouldn’t be easy. Quinn let out a self-deprecating laugh. Once, she’d spent so much time studying what Felix liked, carefully preparing countless gifts for him.
But Felix had treated her efforts like garbage. He’d given many of her gifts away to his buddies without a second thought, never once cherishing her sincerity. She’d been such a fool-putting up with his disrespect, staying by his side for years even though he trampled on her heart.
She tried to type a message to Peyton, but after writing and deleting several times, she still couldn’t bring herself to send it. They hadn’t even met yet. She thought it would be too forward.
“Is everything okay?”
To her surprise, before she could send her message, Peyton texted her first. Quinn froze.
Has he been about to text me too? It’s like he’s read my mind.

When she woke up the next morning, she felt refreshed and energized. She picked up her phone, but her smile faded instantly as she read the messages.
“Who the hell is that man?! How dare you cheat on me, Quinn?!”
“You promiscuous woman! Do you even know what you’re doing?!”
