Chapter 31 Crisis at Graduation

Kieran spoke in a calm tone, but his words carried an unspoken weight.

He pushed Felix away. By the time Felix reacted, Kieran and Quinn had already walked far off.

Felix stood frozen, trembling with anger. He could only watch their backs fade into the distance.

“My dear sister,” Kieran said, “when did your taste get this bad?” He’d finally met the man Quinn had been with, and he wasn’t impressed.

“Kieran, stop teasing me,” Quinn sighed. “I already know I was wrong.”

After the tease, Kieran’s calm face softened into a look of sympathy.

“It’s my fault, Quinn,” he said. “If I’d paid more attention to you, you never would’ve gone through so much. I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner.” Guilt weighed heavy in his voice.

“Kieran. I was the one who made bad choices,” Quinn replied. Warmth spread through her chest. Having her brother by her side made her feel safe.

Just then, Quinn’s phone chimed. She pulled it out to see a text, “I booked a restaurant for you and your brother. Just head over.”

A location link was attached below the message.

Quinn froze. A strange feeling crept over her, like someone was watching her.

How does he know exactly where Iam?

“Are you following me?” she texted back.

“Caring for my fiancée is my duty,” came Peyton’s reply, matter–of–fact.

A small smile tugged at Quinn’s lips. She typed back, “Thanks.”

“Who are you texting?” Kieran asked, noticing her grin. “Got something new going on?”

Quinn quickly locked her phone and shook her head. “No, nothing!”

“C’mon, let’s eat first,” she said. “After that, I’ll take you to the company.”

Since Peyton had already made plans, she figured she might as well go along with it.

They left the airport and headed to the restaurant Peyton had booked.

Back at the airport, Felix exploded with rage. “Find out who that guy with Quinn was!” he snapped at his assistant. “Use whatever means–just get me his info fast!”

His chest ached with frustration.

“Yes, Mr. Cole,” the assistant hurried to agree. He’d never seen Felix this angry.

Felix fumed alone at the airport for a long time before finally leaving.

He’d always thought Quinn was just mad at him. He never imagined she’d actually leave him for good.

But seeing that man today changed everything. The stranger’s clothes, his looks–everything about him screamed “put–together.” Felix felt a sharp twist of fear.

I can’t let Quinn and that man stay together. No matter what.

After leaving the airport, Felix planned to head back to his company.

But just as he reached the building, his phone rang. It was Lila.

“Felix… I’m so upset,” Lila’s voice came through, weak and tearful. She was crying hard.

“Lila, talk to me,” Felix said, his tone urgent. “Why are you crying? Did someone hurt you?”

He checked the time.

She should’ve just landed. What happened?

Lila had gone to her university for graduation. After the ceremony, she’d get her degree.

“Felix, I’m at school now,” she sobbed. “But they said I cheated on my thesis! They won’t let me graduate. And… and I might never get into another school again!”

Her sobs grew louder, broken and helpless.

She’d relied on Felix for years. He’d pulled strings to get her into this good university.

Now, right before graduation, everything was falling apart. All her hard work had been for nothing.

“What? How did this happen?” Felix asked. “What exactly did the school say? Stop crying, okay? I’m here for you. I’ll fix this.”

His voice was gentle with sympathy, but panic bubbled inside him.

Everything has been sorted out. Why was there a problem at the last minute?

“I don’t know!” Lila wailed. “They just said I cheated. When I asked more questions, they kicked me out. I don’t know what to do, Felix!”

A degree meant everything to her. She couldn’t rely on Felix forever. She needed to stand on her own two feet.

“Lila, I’m not with you right now, but don’t panic,” Felix said, staying patient. “I’ll book you a flight back right away. Once you’re here, I’ll look into this.”

Hearing her cry made his heart ache. He hated not being able to comfort her in person.

As soon as he hung up, Felix called his assistant again. He ordered him to investigate the school issue immediately.
