Chapter 51 Peyton’s Quiet Tenderness

Quinn explained awkwardly, hoping he’d understand.

“If my name works that well, feel free to use it forever,” Peyton said casually.

He didn’t mind at all. Soon enough, he’d announce to the world that Quinn was his fiancée.

He’d witnessed the entire argument with Felix. He hadn’t stepped in because he wanted to see if Quinn could handle the trouble on her own.

She hadn’t disappointed him.

He couldn’t be by her side forever. There would be times she’d have to face things alone.

That’s why he wanted her to be independent and brave.

Quinn was surprised by his response.

Peyton gently lifted her wrist. It was red and swollen, the marks clearly visible.

“Come home with me,” he said, pulling her toward the door.

“But… the party isn’t over yet,” Quinn protested. “I’m fine, really. It’s just a small injury.”

She didn’t want to ruin his plans because of her.

And she wasn’t that delicate. This minor hurt was nothing to her.

But to Peyton, her injury was a big deal.

Felix’s cruelty toward a woman disgusted him. He’d make that man pay tenfold for those bruises.

“Let’s go,” Peyton insisted, his tone firm. He led her outside without hesitation.

The driver was already waiting at the door. They got in and headed back to the villa.

When they arrived, Mabel saw Quinn’s swollen wrist and hurried over, looking alarmed.

“Miss Hart, your hand is badly hurt!” she exclaimed. “Quick, let’s apply a warm compress. It’ll help with the swelling.”

Mabel sighed, looking truly sorry for her. She rushed to the bathroom to prepare a warm towel.

“Put your hand here. This will soothe the pain,” Mabel said, returning with the towel. “It’ll be sore, but the swelling should go down by tomorrow.”

“I’ll take it from here,” Peyton said, taking the towel from Mabel.

He gently pressed the warm cloth against Quinn’s wrist, his movements careful and gentle.

Quinn looked into his deep eyes, her emotions mixed.

She’d been wondering lately why he was so kind to her. They were about to get engaged, but they’d been strangers before. He had no obligation to treat her this way.

She could feel his sincerity. Most people took time to grow comfortable with each other after meeting.

But with Peyton, it felt like they’d known each other for years.

“I… I have a question to ask you,” Quinn said, hesitating for a moment before speaking up.

Peyton glanced up. “Go ahead.”

“Why are you so good to me?”

As soon as the words left her mouth, she regretted it—the question felt awkward and intimate.+

Peyton paused, his unfathomable gaze lingering on her face for a moment before drifting elsewhere.

“You’re my fiancée,” he replied simply.

So she really doesn’t remember me at all. Otherwise, she never would have asked that.

But he didn’t blame her. It had been so long ago, and she’d been just a child back then.

Relationships took time to develop. He was confident he’d make her fall in love with him.

“Oh…” Quinn said, not knowing how to respond.

She didn’t want to continue the awkward conversation.

“It’s getting late,” she said, changing the subject. “My hand feels better already. Let’s go to bed. I’m pretty tired today.”

She wanted to escape the uncomfortable moment.

“Okay,” Peyton agreed.

He could tell she was uneasy, and he never wanted to make her feel that way. He’d always respect her wishes.

The next morning, Quinn had just woken up when Kieran called.

“Hey, Quinn. I think you’ve wrapped up things here,” Kieran said over the phone. “You’ve been staying with Peyton these past few days, and it seems like you two are getting along well. Come home with me to see Mom and Dad.”

“I promised them I’d bring you back. They’ve been calling nonstop, asking when we’ll return,” he added.

It was time to go

home.

Even if Kieran hadn’t asked, Quinn had planned to head back soon.

She missed her parents terribly. It had been years since they’d last seen each other, and she’d never let them see how much she’d longed for their company.

“Sure, Kieran! Let’s go today,” she said eagerly. “I don’t have any work plans for the next few days. I’m free to travel.”

“If it’s okay with Mom and Dad, I’d like to bring them back with me,” she continued. “I still have two patents to develop, so I can’t stay home for too long. I want them to be with me while I work!”

That was her plan, but she wanted to check with Kieran first. She wasn’t sure if her parents would agree.

“Of course they’ll say yes,” Kieran assured her. “They’ve wanted to see you for so long. You were just too stubborn to come home before. Promise me you won’t argue with them anymore—no matter what happens.”
