“Grandma is kind and she likes you. You don’t have to worry,” Peyton said calmly. His tone had a way of calming her instantly.
She trusted him completely. He’d handle this relationship perfectly.
Since their homes were close, they arrived at the Reed Manor quickly.
“Grandma, I’m home,” Peyton called out.
Two servants helped an elderly woman out from the hallway. She walked slowly into the living room.
“Grandma, this is Quinn, my fiancée,” Peyton said. He wanted to spare Quinn from feeling awkward.
“You must be Quinn,” Iris Reed said, beaming. “Come sit down. I have been looking forward to seeing you two together for so long.”
“You have good taste, my boy. She’s absolutely beautiful!” Iris doted on Quinn, sitting right next to her and taking her hand.
“Thank you for the compliment. I was a little nervous before coming, but I like you too!”
Quinn felt an instant, inexplicable warmth toward Iris. She was truly kind.
“That’s wonderful,” Iris gushed. “Peyton’s marriage has always been my biggest worry. He never dated anyone before meeting you, and I introduced him to countless blind dates, but he never agreed to any.
“I thought he’d spend his whole life alone. But look at him now-what good taste!
“You two are getting engaged soon. I’m so happy. Stay for dinner tonight. I’ll have them make all your favorite dishes. You’re so thin-you need to eat well and get strong. And hurry up and give me a great- grandchild!”
Iris was clearly eager to have a great-grandchild.
It was evident that Iris valued Peyton deeply and genuinely liked Quinn.
Quinn had been very nervous before arriving, but seeing how approachable Iris was, she felt much more at
ease.
“Iris, we have guests!
“Peyton, you’re home! What a rare sight!”
As they chatted, an artificial, sharp voice echoed from the doorway.
Quinn looked up to see a middle-aged woman, dressed in a flamboyant manner, walk in.
Peyton didn’t even lift an eyebrow. His expression turned cold instantly.

Chapter 54 A Family Rift
“This is Peyton’s fiancée, Quinn.
“Quinn, this is Peyton’s uncle’s wife, Donna.” Iris introduced them.
Quinn stood up politely and greeted Donna Reed. “Hello, Mrs. Donna Reed.”

“Hello, Quinn. I’ve heard a lot about you. I understand you just broke up with someone named Felix. That whole scandal made quite a stir,” Donna said, her voice dripping with innuendo.
Quinn’s smile froze. The atmosphere turned awkward in an instant.
Bringing this up in front of Iris was a deliberate attempt to embarrass her.
“Peyton, I told you before-you must make sure that man who hurt Quinn pays for what he did. Have you taken care of it?” Iris asked sharply, her tone changing from warm to serious.
“Don’t worry, Grandma. It’s already been taken care of,” Peyton replied.
“Donna, there’s no need for you to remind me. I know what happened to her. Why don’t you worry your own son instead? Tell him to stop going to the company and bothering me!” Peyton said coldly, showing Donna no respect at all.
He wouldn’t allow anyone to make things difficult for Quinn in his presence.

Quinn could clearly sense there was some kind of rivalry between Peyton and Donna. It made sense-she must be trying to fight him for the family property.
Quinn had seen enough of these wealthy family feuds.
“Peyton, what do you mean by that?” Donna snapped. “The company isn’t just yours-it’s Tyler’s too. Why can’t he go to work there? And as Iris’ eldest grandson, that position should have been his. You’ve been hogging it all this time!”
“Donna, stop being unreasonable!” Iris scolded, her voice trembling with anger. “It’s bad enough that you’ve been arguing with us. Today is Quinn’s first time coming to meet us. Do you have to bring this up now?
“You’re welcome in this house only if you want to be. Otherwise, we don’t need you here!”
Iris was furious. Donna and they had never gotten along, and they often argued.
The reason for their constant fighting was simple: they were vying for Iris’ inheritance.
Peyton was Iris’ most trusted and favorite grandson. She would only feel comfortable passing down the
entire family fortune to someone she knew she could trust completely.
