Chapter 55 Peyton’s Protective Gesture

So, her first choice was Peyton.

It hadn’t been officially announced yet. But everyone knew it was a done deal.

Donna and her son, Tyler Reed, were furious. After all, Tyler was Iris’ eldest grandson.

Relations between the two sides had been strained ever since. They’d never truly accepted Peyton.

“Iris, how could you be so biased?” Donna snapped. “I didn’t come here to cause trouble. You’ve never treated us like family in the first place!

“Your favorite grandson brought home a woman like her. You’ve been staying indoors lately, not going out. But do you know what people are saying about them?

“The gossip is ruining our family’s reputation! We can’t have a woman like her in the family!”

Seeing Iris’ clear support for Peyton and Quinn, Donna had no choice but to pick a fight. She directed her cold, sarcastic remarks at Quinn.

Quinn felt helpless.

I’ve never met someone so sharp-tongued. Why is she taking their family conflicts out on me?

This is bad enough for my first visit. What would happen if Peyton actually inherited his grandma’s fortune?

“Enough!

“I know Quinn’s character. As a member of the Reed family, you’re embarrassing us by speaking ill of your

own kin!”

Iris slammed her cane on the floor. She was clearly livid.

She’d just had a heart stent procedure not long ago. The doctor had warned her not to get angry.

“Iris, I’m only looking out for our family’s reputation!” Donna shot back.

“My family’s business doesn’t concern you. Go worry about your son instead!” Iris snapped, ignoring her completely.

She clutched her chest, looking genuinely unwell. Her health was fragile-she couldn’t handle too much

stress.

“Are you okay?”

Quinn didn’t care what others thought of her. Her only concern was making sure Iris didn’t have a heart attack over her.

“I’m fine, Quinn. Don’t worry about me,” Iris said, forcing a smile. “I’m sorry this happened on your first visit. I failed to keep the peace.

“But you can rest assured. I promise this won’t happen again. This family won’t tolerate any troublemakers.

Anyone who tries to stir things up will be thrown out!”

Iris was furious. She felt humiliated in front of Quinn. She’d just been talking about how welcoming and harmonious their family would be. Now someone was deliberately making trouble.

“Enough!”

Peyton finally spoke up. His sharp gaze locked onto Donna.

“From now on, the company will no longer cover any expenses for your son. Tell him. Don’t say I didn’t

warn you.

“The company is under my full management. All projects are handled by me. No one from your side has any say in the company. Don’t blame me if things get messy!”

With that, Peyton took Quinn’s hand.

“Grandma, Quinn has been traveling all day. She’s tired. I’m taking her home to rest. We’ll come visit you another time.”

He pulled her away

mly, his face dark with anger.

“We’re leaving now. Please take care of yourself. Don’t get angry,” Quinn said, looking back briefly.

She knew that even though they were getting engaged, she was still an outsider. She shouldn’t meddle in their family matters.

Leaving was the best option. She didn’t want to be in the way.

After they left, they went straight to a house. It must be Peyton’s family home-the decor was the same.

“It’s getting late. Stay here tonight. I’ll take you home tomorrow,” Peyton said softly, trying to comfort her.

Quinn nodded obediently. “Okay.”

“I’m sorry about what happened today. I never expected her to show up unannounced and cause such a scene. But I’ll handle it,” Peyton said, looking genuinely remorseful.

It was their first meeting, and this had happened.

“It’s okay,” Quinn reassured him. “I know they weren’t targeting me. They were going after you. What others think of me doesn’t matter at all.

“You’ve already helped me so much. This is nothing.”

Her calm, reassuring words gave him great comfort. He felt no pressure at all.
