After showing Quinn to a room, Peyton left alone. He headed to the study, presumably to handle company

matters.

Before long, Quinn fell asleep in bed. She must have been really tired from the day. Still, her mood was light-after all, she’d been reunited with her parents.

Three o’clock in the morning.

Quinn felt thirsty and went to the living room for a drink. To her surprise, the study light was still on.

Has he not slept yet?

Quinn gently pushed open the study door. She found him still working, this late at night.

Could it be that he’s working overtime because he’s come back with me?

A wave of guilt washed over her. She felt like she was holding Peyton back.

“Why are you awake?” Peyton looked up at her, his sharp features softened by a hint of exhaustion.

“I wanted to get some water. You’re still working so late… Did you fall behind because you came home with me? I’m fine, really. You can go back tomorrow. No need to stay here with me.”

Quinn felt terrible. It was already this late, and she hated the thought of Peyton sacrificing his time for her. As the head of the Reed family, he must have countless things to handle every day.

“There was an issue with an emergency meeting today that I needed to fix. Tomorrow won’t be this late,” Peyton said.

Of course, he wouldn’t tell her it was because he’d accompanied her.

i

Quinn felt much relieved hearing that.

“Go back to sleep. No need to wait for me,” Peyton said calmly.

Quinn knew she couldn’t help with his work here. It was better to go back to bed quietly and not disturb

him.

Before she knew it, the next day arrived.

Peyton’s driver took Quinn home. When she woke up, Peyton was already gone-he’d left early to handle something urgent. He’d sent her a message saying he’d come to her house to accompany her once he finished his work.

When she got home, her mother was waiting for her with some of her favorite fruits.

“Sweetheart, I heard what happened at his house yesterday. Donna is just like that-sharp-tongued to everyone, and she’s always eyeing the family fortune.

“It’s just that Peyton is too outstanding. He’s the only grandson Iris trusts completely, so she chose him to inherit the family property. But you don’t have to worry about any of this. I know Peyton well-he’s capable

Doris felt terrible for her daughter. No one wanted such a thing to happen on her first visit to the Reed family.

She understood the Reed family’s situation, but she needed to prepare her daughter. Things like this might happen again in the future, and they couldn’t avoid each other forever.

During holidays and family gatherings, they’d have to see each other, and Donna might still give Quinn a

hard time.

“Mom, I really don’t care about any of that. As long as Peyton treats me well, that’s enough. We haven’t been together long, but he’s always cared about me and is very thoughtful in everything he does.

“I know I was wrong about the things I did before. I’m sorry, Mom. I made you, Dad, and Kieran worry for so many years.”

Thinking about everything that had happened over the years, Quinn felt sad and guilty.

“Alright, let’s put the past behind us. Eat some fruit-these are all your favorites,” Doris said.

She fed Quinn fruit by hand. They had finally reunited, and she wanted to spend every day with her.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

A servant hurried to answer it. To their surprise, Felix was standing at the door.

He seemed drunk, stumbling and unable to stand steadily.

“Felix! What are you doing here? You’re not welcome!” Quinn’s expression darkened the moment she saw him.

“Quinn, I know I was wrong! Can you give me another chance? I promise I’ll never treat you the way I did before. Everything was my fault-you can hit me, scold me, whatever you want!

“Mrs. Hart, please! Can you give me another chance? I know you opposed us being together before, and I let you down. But I want a chance to change!”

Felix stumbled over to them and said these words. He was clearly heavily drunk, and the smell of alcohol on him was strong.

“Get out of here!” Doris shouted. “My daughter fell out with her family because of you for so many years. How did you repay her? We haven’t even had the chance to settle the score with you, and you dare show up here on your own? You’re shameless!”
