Mia pressed her lips tightly, lingering behind Quinn with a conflicted look. She opened her mouth several times, but swallowed her words cach time.

Quinn sensed her hesitation, stopping abruptly and turning slowly. Her deep eyes fixed on Mia calmly. “Look into what really happened with Elara falling into the pool.”

“Yes, Miss Hart,” Mia replied hastily, nodding and scurrying off-her figure exuding urgency and efficiency.

Quinn stood there, raising an eyebrow slightly before gliding to a table. Her slender fingers picked up a glass of red wine, the liquid glinting invitingly under the lights. She swirled it gently, moving to the side, her posture tall and elegant-like a rose blooming in the night.

Soon, the ballroom buzzed with people, and guests began approaching to greet her. A woman in a glamorous gown sashayed over, a sneer sharp as a knife on her lips, oozing provocation. “Miss Hart, where’s Mr. Cole? I don’t see him around.”

She dragged out the words, eyes glinting with mockery.

Back when Felix and Quinn were inseparable, they’d been the center of attention at every event. Quinn had always been the brightest star-stunning, talented, happily in love, and soaring in her career. It made the woman seethe, thinking of her own marriage: seven years of chasing after her cheating husband.

She sneered silently.

Fragile, that’s what love is. Some people really never change.

Before Quinn could respond, the woman gasped, covering her mouth in fake surprise. “Oh, how silly of me! I just saw Felix at the door with his adoptive sister. Didn’t you notice?” Her tone dripped with relish, as if revealing a scandal.

Quinn narrowed her eyes, a flicker of coldness crossing her gaze, but her lips curved into a calm smile. “Oh, right—I forgot to announce. Felix and I broke up. I’m getting married soon- I’ll send you an invite.” Her voice was steady, no trace of fluster.

Margaret Sutton’s sneer deepened. She stepped closer, fixing Quinn with a sharp gaze, hoping to spot sorrow-but found none. “You can’t be serious! Everyone knows how perfect you two were. Are you really giving him up for that little homewrecker? Can you bear it?” She raised her voice, drawing curious stares from around them.

Quinn remained composed, taking a slow sip of wine before setting the glass down. She folded her hands gracefully in front of her, eyes steady on Margaret. “Whether I can bear it or not is in the past. Life moves forward, doesn’t it? Unlike you-wasting your heart on a man who’s

Quinn stuffed her hands in her pockets, standing tall, her eyes icy as she stared at him. A sneer of contempt and resolve tugged at her lips. “Felix, I’ll say it one more time-we’re over. I’m getting married in two weeks. I’ll invite you… no, both of you to come.” Her words were firm, cutting through the pretense between them like a blade.

Felix froze, then scoffed, “Quit putting on a show. We were together for seven years—you can’t just marry someone else overnight. Stop lying to yourself.”

He looked down at her, disdainful, convinced she was just throwing a fit and would crawl back to him soon. After all, she’d loved him desperately-she couldn’t live without him.

“Your parents disowned you. Leave me, and you’ll be all alone,” he added cruelly.

Quinn’s delicate face darkened instantly, like the sky before a storm. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides, knuckles white with tension, her shoulders trembling with a mix of anger and heartache.

It was always those one loved most who knew exactly how to inflict the sharpest pain. Those once-sweet memories now turned into sharp blades, slicing at her heart.
