Chapter 61 A Bittersweet Farewell
And he’d mentioned that Quinn’s patents had caught his interest.
Time passed quickly.

Quinn had spent a week at home with her parents. Now it was time to go back-she had a lot of work to
handle.
Doris looked at her daughter with reluctance.
“Mom, if you miss me, I’ll come visit. I have a lot of work waiting for me, so I can’t stay longer. We can talk on the phone every day.”
Quinn felt sad too. She wanted to stay with her parents longer, to make up for all the years of regret.
But she couldn’t-there was still so much work. Mia was capable, but some issues were beyond her. And she’d already taken on a lot of work. Quinn didn’t want to tire her out.
“Quinn, take good care of yourself when you go back. Don’t work so hard that you forget to eat. If anything happens, talk to your brother. He’ll help you. Never try to handle everything alone.”
“I know, Mom. You and Dad go back first.”
Quinn looked at her mother with reluctance, feeling upset.
Peyton had come to pick her up. They were going to visit Iris.
Iris had taken an instant liking to her and had been talking about wanting to see her more.
So Quinn felt she had to go. After all, Iris was looking forward to their visit.
Peyton pulled up in front of Doris and James’ house.
“Mr. and Mrs. Hart, you can rest assured. If Quinn is with me, I’ll take good care of her. I’ll never let her feel wronged.”
Normally, Peyton came across as cold, but at that moment, he seemed especially affectionate.
His words gave Quinn a strong sense of security.
“Peyton, we’re trusting you with our daughter. We agreed to this engagement because we have faith in you. You must take good care of her.”
“Quinn went through a lot in her previous relationship and didn’t meet the right person. I know you’re aware of that. So no matter what, you must be good to her.”
That was probably their only request-to be good to their daughter.
After a few pleasantries, they left.

Chapter 61 A Bittersweet Farewell
Quinn felt a mix of emotions on the way-mostly reluctance to leave her mother.
But at least now, whenever she wasn’t busy, she could come home and spend time with her parents.
When they arrived at the Reed Manor, Quinn followed Peyton to see Iris.

“Mrs. Iris Reed, we’re leaving now. I thought I’d come by before we go. Work has been keeping me busy lately, and I don’t know when I’ll be back next.”
Quinn smiled at Iris. She felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity around her.
Iris took her hand. “Quinn, come back and see me whenever you have time. I’d love to spend time with you young people. And I really like you.
“You left in such a hurry last time. I never got a chance to talk to you properly. I want to say sorry.”
The incident from last time had been a source of guilt for Iris. She’d been wanting to explain herself and apologize.
After all, Quinn had been wronged in her home. Now that Quinn and Peyton were about to get engaged, how could Iris bear to see her suffer?
“Mrs. Iris Reed, I’ve almost forgotten about what happened. I really don’t mind. Don’t apologize-it makes me feel awkward.
“I know Donna didn’t mean to target me. But it’s okay. I’ll be prepared next time. And I won’t let her bother
me!
“You’re getting up there. I don’t want you to get sick because of me. If something like this happens again, I’m sure Peyton will handle it!”
Quinn wanted to clear things up with Iris quickly, so Iris wouldn’t dwell on it.
Finally, she had the chance.
“Quinn, I really like you. From the first day you arrived, I could tell you were a thoughtful and understanding girl. I know you mean well, but I want you to know that some things aren’t right for you to have to endure.
“This is just how our family is. You’ll understand as time goes on.”
Iris sounded helpless, not knowing what else to say.
Quinn understood. With a family like theirs, this was just how things were.
