Chapter 62 An Interrupted Feast

Luckily, her childhood had only included her parents and brother-no such feuds or conflicts.

Quinn chatted with Iris while Peyton sat beside them, joining in their conversation.

Just as they were talking, the front door suddenly opened.

It was Eleanor.

“Quinn, why didn’t you tell me you were here last time?” Eleanor asked, walking in. “If I’d known, I would’ve come back right away. I’ve been traveling these past few weeks. I had no idea what’s been going on at home.

“You get wronged on your first visit. What kind of nonsense is this? It’s like slapping me in the face!”

Eleanor spoke angrily, her voice filled with resentment. She’d only heard about what happened later, and immediately went to confront Donna afterward.

The two had gotten into a fight. But she hadn’t had a chance to talk to Quinn about it properly yet.

“Mrs. Eleanor Reed, it’s all in the past,” Quinn said gently. “I really don’t mind. I hope you all don’t dwell on it either.”

At Peyton’s house, she felt valued-like everyone truly cared about her.

“Quinn, I have to stand up for you on this,” Eleanor insisted. “From now on, no one is allowed to bully you!”

She turned to Peyton, her tone sharp. “Peyton, didn’t you come back with her last time? Why did you let your fiancée get wronged on her first visit? This isn’t just someone else’s fault. You’re largely responsible too!

“I’ll only tolerate this once. I don’t want to see anything like this happen again!”

She scolded Peyton angrily, her face serious.

“Mom, I promise. It won’t happen again,” Peyton replied, his expression cold and solemn.

“You’d better keep your word,” Eleanor said firmly. “If Quinn gets even a little wronged because of you, I’ll hold you accountable!

“And next time, it won’t be this easy to let it slide!”

“Alright, alright. Let’s put this behind us,” Iris said, stepping in with a smile. “I promise this won’t happen again. Everyone’s here today, and I’m in a good mood. Let’s have dinner together!”

“Iris, this is a gift I brought you from abroad!” Eleanor pulled out a pearl necklace and handed it to Iris.

Iris was delighted. The bond between Iris and Eleanor was warm-nothing like the tense atmosphere when Donna was around.

Soon, the servants set the table, and they all sat down to eat.

“Quinn, from now on, treat this place like your own home,” Eleanor said warmly. “Don’t be shy about anything. Tell me or Iris whatever you want to eat.”

“I will, Mrs. Eleanor Reed,” Quinn replied. This was her second time meeting them, so she felt much more relaxed than before-no longer as stiff.

She really liked the atmosphere here.

Being with Peyton’s family was nothing like her time with Felix’s. Felix’s mother had been kind to her too, but there had always been subtle calculations and hidden agendas beneath the surface.

Eleanor, though, made her feel completely different-genuine and warm.

They were all enjoying the meal, chatting happily, when the front door suddenly opened again.

It was Donna.

Quinn frowned, feeling a headache coming on.

Why does she always show up whenever we are here? Is it on purpose?

After all, they don’t live together. Only Mrs. Iris Reed stayed in this house, and the others visit occasionally.

This is far too coincidental.

“Looks like a party here today-everyone’s gathered,” Donna said, walking in with a sarcastic tone. Her eyes swept over Quinn, sharp and judgmental.

“Donna, if you’re here for dinner, you’re welcome,” Eleanor said coldly. “But if you’re here to cause trouble like last time, don’t say I’m being rude!

“Quinn is family now. I won’t let anyone make her feel wronged!”

Eleanor usually seemed kind and warm, but she never backed down when it came to protecting her own. She treated people exactly how they treated her.

“Eleanor, what are you talking about?” Donna protested. “Last time, I was just stating the facts. When did I do what you’re accusing me of? You’re overreacting. Everything I do is for the good of the family!”

“Enough!” Iris interrupted. “Stop quarreling every time you’re both here. Can’t we all get along peacefully? We’re family, after all.

“As long as I’m here, there will be no discord in this house. That goes for all of you. If something’s bothering you, say it to my face. There’s no need for all this petty bickering!”
