Chapter 64 Family Secrets Unveiled
“Mom, don’t waste your anger on irrelevant people. I’ll handle this myself,” Peyton said coldly before leaving.
Arguing with Donna is pointless. She is an unreasonable person.

Besides, he was about to get engaged to Quinn. This was only her second visit to the family, yet trouble kept popping up. He felt helpless.
“I know my son is the best,” Eleanor said, her face beaming with pride. Her mood lifted instantly, feeling a sense of relief.
But Donna’s face paled with panic when she heard Peyton’s words. “Peyton, what are you planning to do? I warn you not to overstep! You don’t call all the shots in this family yet!”
She was terrified that Peyton would do something to harm their interests.
Peyton always kept his word, and he never left room for compromise when he acted.
“You were the one who provoked me first,” Peyton retorted coldly. “You know how fragile Grandma’s health is. Why did you come here to cause trouble?
“Do you really think this will affect our relationship? Don’t flatter yourself.”
After saying that, Peyton took Quinn’s hand and walked out of the house.
Quinn silently agreed. She never wanted to come back here again. The constant drama had left her traumatized.
“Peyton, stop right there!” Donna shouted after them. “Do you think you’re so powerful? Is this how you speak to your elders? You’ve never respected our family. Why should we trust you?
“The Reed family has a huge business. Even if the company is stable now, it’s because the foundation is solid -not because you’re so talented!
“Don’t be so arrogant. No one knows who’ll end up with the company in the end. I refuse to believe my son is less capable than you!”
Donna screamed insults, her words growing more vulgar by the second. Panic gnawed at her.
If Peyton really took action against them, they’d be in serious trouble.
Deep down, Donna knew exactly what her son was like. She just refused to admit it.
“Say whatever you want,” Peyton replied indifferently, walking away without looking back. No one could stop him.
Once they left, he got in the car and drove off.
On the way, Quinn fell silent, unsure of what to say.
She wanted to ask why his family was so dysfunctional.

Chapter 64 Family Secrets Unveiled
Do all wealthy families have to be so scheming?
But she hesitated. She wasn’t officially part of the family yet. It wasn’t her place to ask.
Peyton seemed to read her mind. He began explaining his family’s situation.

“Grandma has two sons-my uncle and my father. Neither of them is capable of running the company. Grandma never trusted them, so she focused on me and my cousin instead.
“My cousin is lazy, always fooling around. I’ve been obedient and responsible since I was a kid, so Grandma did favor me a bit. Donna has held a grudge about this for years.
“But Grandma is a wise woman. She knows who’s capable of what. She gave me the company because I
earned it-not because of favoritism.
“Donna has always wanted my cousin to take over the company and inherit all of Grandma’s fortune. As you can see, Grandma’s health is failing. She’s getting older, and Donna is growing more anxious. That’s why she keeps stirring up trouble.”
Quinn nodded in understanding. It was exactly what she’d suspected
If I were in his grandma’s position, I would’ve chosen Peyton without hesitation.
“You’re my fiancée, so she’s using you to make trouble and embarrass you,” Peyton said, his voice filled with guilt. “I’m sorry I dragged you into this. You didn’t deserve to be wronged in my family.”
But Quinn had never felt wronged-or resented him for it.
“Peyton, don’t think like that. It doesn’t matter to me,” she reassured him. “I know she’s just jealous of your success. If you were like her son, she wouldn’t even give you a second glance.”
Instead of complaining, Quinn comforted him.
She felt sorry for Peyton. He’d probably grown up in this chaotic family environment. If he hadn’t been strong, he never could’ve protected his mother.
