“Honestly, I want to finish a project independently,” Quinn explained, growing increasingly nervous. “The reason I asked him is because I want to collaborate with him!”
She struggled to find the right words.
Is he really angry? Does he truly care that much about this?
The concern in his eyes was undeniable, and Quinn knew it.
“Next time, come to me first,” Peyton said firmly. “I’ll find a way to help you. You don’t need to ask other
men.”.
Peyton was possessive, but his feelings were genuine. He cared about Quinn deeply and hated seeing her with anyone else.
They weren’t officially engaged yet, but watching the woman he loved laughing and chatting with another man over dinner had stirred a wave of unexplained anger in him.
“I don’t mind you having friends-that’s your right and freedom,” he continued softly. “Even after we’re married, you’ll still be free to live your life. But I want us to be open with each other. I want you to think of me first when you need help.”
There might have been nothing between Quinn and Leo, but the feeling of being left out had hurt.
Quinn nodded quickly. “I understand. I always keep a distance from my guy friends. Leo and I have known each other for years-there’s no way we’d ever be together. I don’t have any romantic feelings for him at all.
“We just grab dinner occasionally. That’s it-nothing more!”
Once they’d talked it out, the awkward tension faded.
Peyton hesitated, as if he wanted to ask more. But he checked the time-it was already late. He decided to save his questions for tomorrow; they’d have plenty of chances later.
After speaking with him, Quinn returned to her bedroom.
She was still a little confused. His words had been all over the place, and she wasn’t sure what to make of
them.
He said he wouldn’t control me or interfere with my freedom, so why he cared so much about my dinner with Leo?
Lost in thought, she drifted off to sleep before she knew it.
She slept surprisingly soundly that night-more peaceful than she had in a long time.
Her patent issues were finally resolved, back on track.
The next morning….
Quinn didn’t wake up until noon.

Peyton had already left for the company early. Once again, only she and Mabel remained in the house.
As always, Mabel had prepared a meal for her-thoughtful as ever.
“Miss Hart, you’re awake,” Mabel said. “Mr. Reed left early for a meeting this morning. He specifically told me to make sure you eat before going to work. He doesn’t want you skipping meals because you’re too busy!”
Every day, Peyton reminded Mabel to take good care of Quinn.
The real reason he’d invited her to live with him was to ensure she was well looked after.
With her parents far away and work keeping her busy, she’d likely skip meals if she lived alone.
Peyton refused to let that happen.
“Thank you, Mabel,” Quinn said, her heart warming.
After dinner, she met Mia at a small studio they’d rented earlier. Having left the company, this space was now perfect for their needs.
They’d originally rented it for Mia to handle work tasks outside the office. She never expected it to come in handy like this.
Leo also sent her a message-he had a patent project that would be perfect for their collaboration. They agreed to meet that afternoon.
When Quinn arrived at the studio, Mia was already waiting for her.
“Miss Hart! You’re finally here,” Mia exclaimed, bursting with excitement. “I’ve missed you so much these past few days. Work’s been tiring, but it never feels like it when I’m working with you!
“I’ve been keeping an eye on all the projects, and they’re all stable. We have your friend to thank for that.
“Did everything go well with your family? I’m so happy you’re back on good terms with your parents!”
Mia had been under a lot of pressure since leaving the company-like she’d lost her anchor. Whenever she faced problems, she’d wanted to call Quinn.
But she’d hesitated, not wanting to bother her while she was spending time with her family. She’d handled everything on her own, and it had been exhausting.
