Stepping out of the bedroom, Quinn let out a long sigh of relief. She’d finally escaped the awkwardness.
The image of waking up next to Peyton replayed in her mind, refusing to fade.
When she went downstairs, Mabel had already prepared breakfast, waiting for them.
Seeing her emerge from Peyton’s room, Mabel smiled warmly. “Miss Hart, you’re awake. Breakfast is ready. Come eat.”
“Thank you, Mabel,” Quinn replied politely.
Soon after, Peyton walked out of the bedroom, wearing a black shirt, looking ready to leave.
“Mr. Reed, please,” Mabel gestured to the table.
They sat down to eat together.
Before they finished, Quinn’s phone rang. It was Leo.
“Quinn, I’ve finalized a collaboration plan,” his voice boomed through the speaker, loud enough for Peyton to hear. “If you have time, come over. We can go over it together.
“I also got your favorite desserts. There’s a surprise waiting for you!”
Peyton’s expression darkened instantly.
He knew there was probably nothing between Quinn and Leo, but he still hated seeing the woman he cared about with another man-even if it was just for work.
As a man, he could sense Leo’s feelings for her.
Yet he couldn’t say anything about it.
“Okay, I’ll be there soon,” Quinn replied. “I’ll tidy upquickly and head over with Mia.”
Mia is coming too?
Knowing it wouldn’t be just the two of them eased Peyton’s tension slightly.
After hanging up, Quinn ate faster, eager to get going.
“I’m finished. I need to leave,” she said. “As you heard, Leo wants to discuss the collaboration.”
These two patents had been weighing on her mind. She wanted to resolve them quickly so she could stop stressing and focus on getting the projects running smoothly.
Peyton just nodded faintly, saying nothing.
When she arrived at Leo’s office…
Leo was drinking coffee. He handed the desserts to Quinn as soon as she walked in.

“I know you don’t have many hobbies-just love these little sweets,” he said. “I asked a friend to bring them. back from abroad. I bet you’ll love them.”
Leo had prepared them carefully, hoping to cheer her up.
He could tell Quinn seemed less gloomy lately, but she was still exhausted-going through the motions each day.
“Thank you, Leo,” Quinn said.
“Don’t be so formal with me. Eat up first. We’ll talk work after,” he urged.
They’d been friends for years. Quinn dropped the pleasantries and ate the desserts, relaxing in his office.
A short while later, Mia arrived, rushing in breathlessly.
“Miss Hart, Mr. Harrison, I’m so sorry I’m late!” she apologized. “There was a car accident on the way, and traffic was backed up. I couldn’t get here faster.
“I’m really sorry for keeping you waiting.”
Quinn laughed at her flustered state. “It’s okay. No need to rush. We weren’t talking work yet-just eating.”
“Have some water and grab a snack,” she said, handing Mia a dessert.
But Mia didn’t want to eat in front of the client. “No, thank you, Miss Hart. I ate before I came. Just tell me what you need me to do.”

“Mia, relax. We’re all friends here. No need to be so stiff around him,” Quinn said, amused by her
nervousness.
“I understand, Miss Hart,” Mia replied.
The more Quinn reassured her, the more awkward Mia felt-especially around Leo.
She had no idea why she was so tense.
“Mia, no need to be polite,” Leo said. “Quinn and I have been friends for years. We’ll be working closely together, so let’s drop the formalities.”
“I understand, Mr. Harrison,” Mia said quietly.
By the time they finished working, it was already late.
“It’s getting dark,” Leo said. “Thank you both for your hard work. Our project is going so smoothly thanks to you. Let me treat you to dinner!”
