“Tsk.” Juniper couldn't listen to his sappy delusions anymore. She shook her head and warned, “You do you, but Luella is hard to win over.”
Hard to win over?
Good! Now that she was his, no one else stood a chance!
“Thank you, Juniper,” Jimmie said, walking them to the door.
“For what?” Juniper asked, thoroughly confused.
“I only met Luella because of you,” Jimmie smiled gently. “Of course I have to thank you.”
“Oh.” Juniper ruffled her own hair, feeling a pang of guilt. There was so much she hadn't told him.
Like the fact that Luella was actually a girl.
Her brother was so deeply in love with Luella—surely it wasn't just because he thought she was a guy? When the truth eventually came out, how would he react to finding out the 'boy' he loved was actually a woman?
“Um,” Juniper pursed her lips, offering a low warning. “Actually, Luella acts a lot like a girl in many ways. Why don't you try treating her like one?”
“Sure.” Jimmie stared at her with a calm, steady smile. “From today on, I'll treat her exactly like a girl.”
“Oh.” Juniper stood there, feeling slightly bad.
Whatever.
Luella's revenge plan was more important. As for Jimmie's sexual orientation...
If Luella could bend him, she could probably straighten him out again.
After seeing them off, Jimmie went back to the living room. The moment he sat down, a video call from Luella popped up.
“So? So? Did Juniper suspect anything?”
“No.” Jimmie gazed lovingly at the girl on his screen, who was playing a guy so flawlessly. “She thinks I went crazy from a broken heart.”
“Pfft—” Luella held her phone and burst out laughing. The sudden movement pulled at her sore legs. She hissed, her expression immediately twisting in pain.
“Still sore?” Jimmie frowned, apologizing guiltily. “I'm sorry. Next time, I'll—”
Luella sat in her office, flipping through the files of all the high-ranking officials in Stellara Country.
Most were only in it for power or money. Very few actually cared about the people.
As she flipped, one particular man caught her eye.
He held a high position but didn't have many major achievements. He looked honest and grounded.
Putting down the file, Luella stood up and walked toward the main administrative hall.
Many top officials were lounging around, grabbing coffee, or absentmindedly flipping through paperwork to kill time.
But the “Mr. Dalton” she was looking for was nowhere to be seen.
“Mr. Langley, who are you looking for?” Kate asked curiously, following closely behind.
“Where is he?” Luella pointed to an empty office. Inside, there was nothing but a desk and a chair. The desk was piled high with books, messy but organized in its own way.
“You mean Mr. Dalton?” Kate paused for a second before answering respectfully. “Mr. Dalton spends most of his year out doing fieldwork. He's rarely in the political building. Let alone you, even we barely see him.”
