Chapter 49
Amelia’s POV
The room erupted the second Jasper’s words sank in
“She can’t be our Luna!” someone shouted.
“She’s a liar!*
“She’s mated to another Alpha-what kind of joke is this?”
Their voices rose higher, overlapping-angry and sharp. It was chaos. A few moments ago, I’d been certain these people hard accepted me, but now, because of Jasper’s words, they were looking at me like I was a disease.
“She doesn’t belong here!” a woman screamed. “End this before it destroys Pawmoon!”
“Execute her!” another voice barked from somewhere in the crowd. “She’ll curse us af!!”
My heart froze at that word. Execute. They wanted me gone-worse than gone.
I took a step back, my breath catching in my throat, but before the fear could swallow me whole, Ryder moved. He stepped in front of me, his body a wall between me and everyone else. His presence filled the entire hall, his power slamming into the room like thunder. His eyes glowed faintly gold, and when he spoke, his voice was deep and steady.
“Anyone who dares to touch my Luna will answer to me,” he said. “And I don’t forgive easily.”
The crowd fell into stunned silence. The weight of his authority pressed down on everyone, forcing them to stop shouting
But their anger didn’t vanish-it only sank lower, quieter now, like a storm gathering beneath still skies. I could see it in their faces, in the way their eyes darted between us, full of doubt and fear.
Then a man near the front straightened his shoulders. “With all due respect, Alpha, protecting her will bring ruin to us. She’s not one of us-she’s a Silverlight maid who betrayed her own pack. And now she’s dragging you down too.”
“She’s dangerous!” someone else shouted. “Tainted by another bond. If we allow this, every clan will see us as weak.” Murmurs of agreement rippled through the hall. I could feel the air closing in around me. Every word, every stare, felt like another cut across my skin.
Ryder stood unmoving, his tone flat but edged with warning “You will show her respect.”
ľ
A woman sneered. “Respect? For a woman who sleeps with one Alpha while mated to another? She’s no Luna–she’s a disgrace.”
The word disgrace slammed into my chest, leaving a sting that went deeper than I wanted to admit.
Lyra’s growl echoed faintly inside me, protective and furious, though she stayed quiet. I took a small step closer to Ry my hands trembling even though I tried to hide it.
“Ryder,” I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t want to cause you more trouble. They’re right-I’ve already brought enough chaos. Maybe it’s better if I just… go.”
His head snapped toward me, disbelief flashing in his eyes. “What?”
“I can’t stand here and watch them turn against you because of me,” I said. “You’ve done everything to protect me, and I

in the crowd shouted. “We will never accept a slut as Luna”
Gasps tore through the hall, and then, like a dam breaking the flood began. Joices poured out-load cruel, relentles one sharper than the last
“She’l ruin Pawnoon’s name?”
́s cursed. A mate to two Alphas? That’s unheard of!”
“She’s a threat. Alpha! Don’t be blinded by lust”
The insults crashed together until the air itself felt heavy Ryder’s power flared instantly, his growl deep and rough to shake the walls. “Watch your mouths,” he warned, his voice low and dangerous.
But they didn’t stop. Their fury fed on itself, growing louder, faster, uglier.
Beside me, Ryder’s whole body tightened. He looked ready to fight the entire hall if it came to that. My stomach twisted, a cold, hollow feeling spreading through me. I wanted to shout back, to make them see that they were wrong-but no words would come. My throat was tight, my voice trapped somewhere deep inside my chest
Then Lyra spoke, her voice clear and strong in my head. It was steady, full of that bold, fearless confidence that always made me feel safe.
Listen to me, she said. Don’t be afraid of them. Fear is what they feed on.
Her presence wrapped around me like armor-warm, protective, and unshakable.
You love Ryder, she said, her voice soft but sure. That’s real, and it’s yours. Jasper doesn’t own a single piece of you-not your heart, not your soul. The only thing you owe him is a rejection. Say the words, end it, and set yourself free.
