Chapter 51

Amelia’s POV

Jasper lunged

He moved so fast all I saw were red eyes and claws cutting through the air

Ryder stepped in front of me, pure instinct.

The impact cracked through the hall. Ryder hit the floor hard, blood blooming across his shirt like spilled/paint

Ryder!” I dropped to my knees beside him, hands shaking.

He pushed up on one knee, breath rough. “Stay behind me.”

Jasper’s smile curved sharp and mean. “Look at that. Isn’t it touching?”

He swung again. Ryder caught his wrist mid-strike, but Jasper twisted free and hit him in the ribs with a sound that made Stomach turn. Ryder staggered, slashed back, claws tearing across Jasper’s chest, but Jasper only grinned wider as blood spread across his shirt.

Around us, the hall descended into chaos-shouts, scraping chairs, the sound of boots backing away.

Then Jasper’s claws sank into Ryder’s side. A thick, wet sound filled the air. Ryder gasped, dropping to one knee. Blood streamed through his fingers.

“Stop!” I screamed. My voice broke, but Jasper didn’t even glance my way.

That’s when I felt it-Lyra snapping awake inside me.

Her voice tore through my mind like thunder. Let me out.

It wasn’t calm, it wasn’t gentle. It was pure rage. Her fury poured through me, hot and wild, drowning out everything else. Ryder was ours- she wouldn’t let him fall.

Jasper raised his hand for the final blow.

The world burst open.

Light exploded from my skin, blinding white edged with violet. Heat rolled through the air, and a roar erupted from deep inside me, shaking the walls. The floor cracked beneath my feet as the shockwave threw Jasper backward, smashing him into the far wall.

He hit hard, stone splitting behind him. Dust rained from the ceiling.

When he pushed himself up, his hands were trembling. His eyes darted from me to the glowing marks crawling up my arms, the faint shimmer of Lyra’s form flickering behind me like fire and smoke.

“What-what is this?” Jasper rasped.

The air around me was alive, heavy and vibrating. Lyra’s rage filled it until it hurt to breathe. Power rolled off my body in waves, lifting dust and debris from the ground. The lights overhead flickered and popped.

Jasper tried to move forward again but stopped dead. His boots skidded against the cracked floor, as if an invisible force was pressing down on him.

For the first time since I’d known him, he looked afraid. Truly afraid.

Jasper stumbled back, clutching his chest, face pale under the blood. His eyes met mine and I saw it disbelief the first hint of surrender.

through the rubble, his retreating steps uneven.

The air still shimmered around me, violet light fading but not gone. No one spoke. No one moved. Every single member the pack stared, wide-eyed, caught between awe and fear.

toward Ryder.

He was slumped on the floor, his body limp, his shirt soaked with blood. The light still shimmered faintly around me, but didn’t care. My knees hit the ground beside him.

“Ryder,” I whispered, pressing my hand against his wound. His skin was cold, his breathing faint. “Stay with me, please.”

His head lolled slightly, eyes half open but unfocused. Panic clawed up my throat. Without another thought, I slid my arm under his shoulders and pulled. He was heavy-his weight almost too much-but I didn’t stop.

Help me!” I shouted, voice breaking through the stunned crowd.

No one moved. They only stared.

Now!” I screamed.

Finally, a few of the younger pack members rushed forward, their fear barely hidden. Together, we lifted him, his blood dripping onto the broken floor as we carried him out of the hall and toward the healers’ chambers.

The room filled with the sharp scent of herbs and smoke as soon as we entered. The healers looked up, startled, then ran to

meet us.

“Lay him here!” one ordered. They worked fast, cutting open his shirt, pressing cloth against the wound.

I stepped closer, but one of the elders stormed into the room, his silver hair wild, his expression hard. “What is she doing here?”

“She brought him in,” a healer said without looking up.

The elder’s glare snapped to me. “Enough of this! You’ve done more than enough harm, girl.”

My hands clenched at my sides. “He needs me,” I said. “I’m not leaving him.”

Another elder entered, his voice sharp. “You will step back! Alpha Ryder is injured because of you.”

“That’s not true!” I said, anger flaring. “Jasper attacked him! He jumped in front of me!”

“And why did Jasper attack?” the elder shot back. “Because of you! Because you brought chaos into this pack. You-an outsider, a servant, a curse.”

The words stung harder than claws. “I’m not a curse,” I said, forcing the words out through shaking lips.

“You are,” another elder snapped. “Wherever you go, blood follows. First your old pack, now ours.”

Murmurs rippled through the healers’ hall-fearful voices rising.

Their words came faster, piling on until they felt like blows.
