But she was so weak from all the smoke she’d inhaled and had passed out. But her hand covered her abdomen all she had been able to think about was to protect her baby.
“Even now…” I murmured hoarsely, “you protect it.”
The thought of it broke me.
But I quickly made haste out of there, because if she inhaled any more smoke, it would be fatal to he
“Take care of her, will you?” I said to the healer while he tended Amelia in our room, ‘T be right back, I have to land to something. But don’t worry, some of my men are out there, in case anyone tries something funny.”
The healer looked up at me with compassion, “Don’t you worry, she’s going to be okay.”
I nodded once, and stormed out of the room to go address the Elders in the courtyard.
When I got there, all their murmurings halted and they looked at me with fear.
“The elders responsible for what just happened will be locked in the dungeons for all time. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some of you who share their beliefs.” I grounded out stoically, “I will only say this once, so you all listen up. Amelia is my wife, my Luna, your Luna, so you must respect her. If there is any one among you who would try to endanger her life after today, I promise it would not bode well with you. You will be cast out of the tribe, and by the time I’m done with you. you will wish you were never born.”
After saying that, I turned around and left them to stew with my final warning.
No one came after Amelia since that day, and I dedicated all of my time to her. During the day, I would train to keep her safe.
୮ only to spend the rest of the while by her side.
She grew tired easily, so it was enough to simply lay by her side, protectively covering her bulging belly with my hand, while she told her unborn child tales of princes and princesses.
But every day, the child grew, and Amelia’s belly grew with it, and I worried about the fundal weight. I had seen pregnant women, so I knew enough to understand that the shape of Amelia’s belly was abnormally large.
So I worried, even while Amelia tried to stay positive.
“The puppy is too big.” the vet doctor stated when he came in to check Amelia. She had been complaining about feeling pains, and I knew better than to take that for granted.
“Isn’t there something we can do to slow down the growth process?” I asked, and the doctor looked at Amelia with worry before shaking his head, “Even if I did, the truth is, The Luna’s body is no longer able to sustain this pregnancy, and by the time she wants to deliver, she won’t be able to do it naturally. Her best bet is to remove the puppy now, through a caesarean section.”
Amelia let out a cry right then, and I rushed to her side quickly.
“Okay, then, let’s do it. Right now, because I can’t lose her.”
“My baby. I don’t want to lose my baby.” Amelia cried, clutching her stomach and I looked at her sadly.
Even now, she priced the puppy’s life over her own. Even when it endangered her.

While I paced, the healer suddenly burst out of the operating room, holding up his bloody hands.
“Healer, what’s wrong? How’s Amelia?”
He tried to remain stoic, but I saw his eyes. I saw the worry, “The puppy is to big, Alpha Ryder. We’re doing all that we can, but she’s bleeding so much, Right now, her condition is critical, so I had to come out here to ask you to make the choice” “What? What are you asking me? What choice?”
The healer let out a heavy breath, like what he was about to say weighed on him heavily, “Would you like us to save the puppy… or your wife?”
