“No, not yet.” Ryder replied, his hand still gently laying on Noah’s body, “But I can tell that the bond is weakening

He looked up at me, his eyes hopeful, “it won’t be long now.”

I nodded in gratitude, but still held my breath as 1 reached out to lift Noah off the ground. I exhaled when his trembling stopped, and couldn’t help the smile that formed across my lips when he looked up at me.

“Mum?” He said softly and held him close to my breast.

“Yes, my sweet boy. I’m right here.” I said, happy that the bond between him and Camille was weakened, that was a considerably good thing and I could not help but finally relax.

“I can feel the bond between me and that woman lighten, mum.” Noah said, his face cradled against my neck, “And believe me, the next time I see her, I’m going to hit her hard!”

I smiled down at him when we came apart, his eyes wide and expressive.

“I just know Camille would hate to see you coming.” I said and made him giggle when I tickled him.

“Glad you’re feeling okay, champ.” Ryder said and wrapped his big arms around Noah and I. I felt an inexplicable flutter in my heart when he embraced us, and playfully nudged him away to avoid things from getting awkward.

“Noah’s still here, Ryder.” I added quietly and smiled up at him, and Ryder pouted in a way I found oddly endearing.

“No fair.” He said softly, “I’m exhausted from breaking a magical circle, and even coughed up blood. That’s to tell you just how demanding that activity was. The littlest thing I deserve is a hug.”

I couldn’t help but smile at him while he made his mini rant. I mean, he did sort of have a point.

“You’ve had a long day for sure.” I said sweetly and he nodded emphatically.

“I ache all over and really need to rest.” He said and looked down at Noah, “how about you go out with Beta to play?”

Noah’s eyes lit it up at the word ‘play’ and nodded happily.

“Of course!” Noah agreed and Ryder quickly arranged for his Beta to come take Noah outside.

“I should go with them, so that I can keep watch over Noah.” I said awkwardly when Ryder and I were alone, but he shook his head.

“Beta will look after Noah, I can assure you of that.”

“I don’t doubt you.” I said sincerely, but I was having a hard time being separated from my baby: Ryder must have seen my inner dilemma because he reached from my hand and brought it to his lips.

“You’ll survive if you spend only a couple of hours away from him, especially since his in good hands”

“yeah. “I whispered and sighed heavily, “So what do I do in the meantime?”

“That’s easy. Why don’t you stay here with me? We can both catch some rest in the meantime.”

“I see.” I said as he rose to his feet, and then stretched out his hand to help me to mine.

He led us toward the room we shared and closed the door behind me.

While he changed out of his outdoor clothes, I just stood at the foot of the bed watching him. Instantly growing shy when he walked toward me, smiling.

“are you just going to stand there?” He asked softly and I looked toward the bed.

“I…” I looked back at him, feeling a bit flustered, “What do you want exactly?”

He shrugged, his smile still in place, “Not much. Just sleep.”

Just sleep? What kind of sleep?” I asked as he started to lay down, then rolled over to look up at me.

“The kind that involves my pillow and maybe a blanket. Just like this.”

“just like…” I began and instantly felt silly and awkward, “this is what you meant by sleep?”

Now his smile grew suggestive, and I knew without a doubt that he knew what he was doing to me, “Yeah. What else? What did you think I meant?”

I pressed my lips together and simply laid down next to him.

“Nothing,” I mumbled, “Let’s just sleep.”
