Exit the Catfights Enter the Empire novel Chapter 18

Felicity stammered, "There's no need to be that ruthless, he's my own brother."

"Exactly. It's because he's your brother that your righteous act of destroying your own kin will be so moving. If we pitch it right, you might even be nominated for one of the country's Top Ten Most Inspiring Figures." Evelyn grabbed Felicity's hand and said with absolute sincerity, "Felicity, my future peace and quiet depend entirely on you. Do you think the fruit knife in the room will do the trick?"

Felicity followed Evelyn's gaze and saw the silver blade of the knife gleaming coldly in the bowl. It seemed to be screaming frantically: I can do it.

Felicity flopped back onto the sofa.

Evelyn asked with mock concern, "Why aren't you going? Do you need me to point out which room your brother is in?"

Felicity scoffed, "With so many cute guys waiting for me here, I can't just leave them hanging. That would break their hearts."

With that, she started fooling around with the handsome guys behind her.

Seeing that Felicity had settled down, Evelyn finally picked up an orange and began peeling it slowly.

Abby sat off to the side, downing a glass of juice, but the fire in her heart still burned bright. She had originally wanted to lose control and chew Xavier out, but remembering the frigid state of their marriage and the face of the woman next to him, she ultimately couldn't bear to make things harder for Evelyn.

She poked Evelyn with a finger. "If you want to cry, I'll lend you my shoulder."

Evelyn smiled. "There's no need. It's just a small scene."

As soon as she finished speaking, Evelyn's phone rang. She placed the peeled orange into Abby's palm and stepped out to take the call.

"Hello, is this Ms. Evelyn Lawler?"

"Speaking."
