Evelyn couldn't help but laugh out loud.
But soon, the smile faded from her lips.
Heavy raindrops began to fall, quickly turning into a torrential downpour.
Evelyn scrambled to find shelter and pulled out her phone to hail a ride.
But it was simply too late. There were no cars available, and the rain showed no signs of stopping. In fact, it was only getting worse.
Not wanting to wait any longer, Evelyn got her bearings and made a run for it in the storm.
...
"Ah!"
Abby Leland was on her way back to bed after a late-night bathroom trip when she heard her front door open. A figure stumbled inside.
Terrified, Abby shrieked and grabbed the nearest object to defend herself.
"It's me."
As the voice spoke, the entryway lights clicked on.
Abby stared in absolute shock at Evelyn, who was standing at the door, dripping wet.
Evelyn looked like an absolute wreck.
But Abby didn't ask any questions. She just urged her forward. "Hurry up and take a shower. Don't catch a cold."
Without hesitation, she shoved Evelyn into the bathroom.
Evelyn peeled off her soaked clothes and stepped under the showerhead. When the hot water finally hit her skin, she realized she was trembling.
Water trickled into her eyes, making them feel dry and painfully uncomfortable.
She stayed in the shower for half an hour. By the time she stepped out, Abby had a hot bowl of soup waiting for her.
