Once the marriage was set, Xavier came straight to her door. His face had been a mask of ice, barely concealing a deep, burning hatred. "You were the one desperate enough to marry me. Fine. Then stay and spend the rest of your life atoning for your sins!"
Right now, Xavier's brows furrowed slightly. Whether it was her overly intense stare annoying him or something else, he felt a sudden wave of heat welling up inside him. It felt like tiny sparks of fire were racing through his veins, threatening to set his entire body ablaze. A primal, stirring ache started to pool low in his stomach.-
Xavier realized something was deeply wrong. "Evelyn, what did you do?"
Evelyn's head was already spinning. She fanned her flushed face with a delicate hand. "It's so hot in here. Did the AC break down?"
He had intended to confront her for whatever trick she was pulling, but when he turned around, he saw her half-slumped against the counter. The delicate straps of her lace nightgown had slipped, exposing a creamy shoulder and the soft swell of her chest.
Evelyn usually had an aloof, elegant demeanor, but right now, her almond eyes were clouded with mist. A rosy flush had crept up the corners of her eyes, making her look devastatingly alluring—like a siren meant to steal a man's soul.
Xavier instantly knew what was happening. His gaze shot to the corner of the room, landing on the aromatherapy diffuser. The intoxicating, maddening scent was wafting right out of it.
He bolted upright and strode over to yank the plug. Even that simple movement made his breathing hitch, the burning desire intensifying.
He immediately headed for the door, but as he passed the counter, Evelyn lost all control and practically threw herself into his arms.
The moment he caught her, the sensation of her soft, smooth, and cool skin hit him instantly. His hands, which had been raised to push her away, instinctively wrapped around her instead.
Evelyn clung to his neck, her brows knitting together in unbearable frustration. "I feel so awful, Xavier."
His self-control was hanging by a thread. The overwhelming effects of the drug made him feel completely feral, desperate to devour the woman in front of him.
