Evelyn couldn't help but hold her breath. The quiet room made it agonizingly easy to hear Vickie Fulton's voice on the other end.

"Where are you? I'm already at the rotating restaurant waiting for our dinner."

"I can't make it tonight," Xavier said smoothly. "Let's reschedule."

Vickie refused to let it go, her voice dripping with sweet, practiced whining.

A suffocating weight settled over Evelyn's chest. He hadn't even fully gotten out of her bed yet, and he was already whispering sweet nothings to another woman.

In a flash of anger, she snatched the phone right out of his hand and spoke into it with breathless sweetness. "I'm ovulating today. Honey, hurry up!"

Vickie froze. Just as she was about to speak, she heard Xavier mutter, "Hanging up."

And the line went dead.

Vickie's face contorted in rage, and she aggressively swept everything off the table, sending it shattering to the floor.

Evelyn Lawler... that absolute bitch!

Back in the bedroom, Xavier stared at Evelyn with ice-cold eyes. "You did that on purpose."

She didn't deny it. "We've been married for three years. I've never forced you to fulfill your duties as a husband because I hoped that one day, you'd actually fall in love with me. I didn't do it so you could flaunt your mistresses in my face!"

"I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed. I will never love you."

Evelyn’s heart violently twisted. Throwing herself into his arms, she noticed him trying to pull away and let out a scoff. "Are you already done after just one round? Maybe I should have the kitchen brew you some stamina supplements."

No man could stomach that kind of provocation. Xavier was no exception. With bloodshot eyes, he pinned her fiercely against the mattress.

By the time the dust truly settled, it was the middle of the night.

He shoved her away, picked up his phone from the floor, and called his assistant. "Find a way into the estate and unlock this damn door."

It wasn't long before Ronan arrived. Lord knew how he managed to pick the lock.
