Faux Vows, True Desires novel Chapter 535

Cecilia hesitated for a moment before saying, “I think I mentioned it before, didn’t I? No? Well, listen up now, Owen, I love you!”

Owen pulled her closer, “I love you even more, Cecilia. More than anything in the world!”

The soon-to-be-married couple was on their way to the courthouse, exchanging sweet words and promises.

Halfway there, Cecilia’s phone rang. It was Becca Yates, her mother.

“Cecilia, have you and Owen finished the paperwork yet? Are you coming back for lunch or heading to his place? If you’re coming back, let me know soon. I’m about to start preparing lunch, and I need to know if I should get a roast chicken ready.”

Like Cecilia, Becca believed that signing the marriage certificate was as good as being married, a joyful occasion worth celebrating. In their family, celebrating meant a hearty meal with a roast chicken as the centerpiece.

Owen, overhearing the conversation, leaned in and answered for them, “Mom, we’ll be coming home for lunch. I’ll let Grandpa know as well, and he’ll come over with my parents.”

Before they'd even signed the papers, Owen had already started calling Becca ‘Mom’. Becca, amused by this, chuckled and said, “Alright then, I’ll go get some groceries. Owen, is there anything special you’d like to eat?”

“Mom, I’ll eat whatever you prepare. I’m not picky.”

Owen knew that the Yates family respected Cecilia’s choice, though they might not have been entirely thrilled about him. He appreciated being invited to the table and was determined to make a good impression.

“Okay, I’ll stick to my original plan then. Are you almost at the courthouse?”

“Almost there.”

“Alright, I’m off to the store.”

Becca ended the call, and Owen immediately called his Grandpa, Mr. Martinez, to inform him about the lunch plans.

“We’re already on our way to your in-laws,” Mr. Martinez said with a chuckle. “Didn’t want to miss the chance to make sure you’re really off the market.”

“Grandpa, you’re fast,” Owen replied, a bit exasperated.

“Well, can’t risk your in-laws changing their mind, now can we?”

Owen hung up, shaking his head, and Cecilia, who had overheard the conversation, couldn’t help but laugh.
