Faux Vows, True Desires novel Chapter 536

Love was gone, and so was her career. This time, Ruby truly faced a significant loss. Megan, her mom, felt deeply for her daughter. But after selling their house and tightening their belts, she no longer carried herself with the same elegance she once did.

“Do you need something?” Owen's handsome face showed no warmth, his voice cold and low as he spoke. Megan felt a pang in her chest. How long had it been, really? Less than six months. This man, who once seemed to revolve around her daughter, had clearly had a change of heart.

Back in the day, Owen treated Ruby like she was made of glass, handling her with the utmost care and devotion. He'd loved her for over a decade, and Megan believed he was the one, the man who would never walk away from Ruby.

Who could have predicted this? Sure, Ruby had a fling while abroad. But hey, that's just how things roll there, right? Even back home, people are more open-minded now. As long as you stay faithful in marriage, what's there to fret about? Besides, Owen loved Ruby, didn't he? Just because she lied once, did he really have to give up on her?

Ruby couldn't accept it, and neither could Megan. To her, Owen's love for Ruby should have been strong enough to weather any storm.

“Owen, do you really have to be so cold to me?” Megan pleaded. “Megan, if you have something to say, then say it. If not, please step aside. You're in my way.” Owen’s face was a mask of indifference, his eyes sharp and unwavering, almost as if warning her.

Megan glanced at him for a long moment, then shifted her gaze to Cecilia, standing a bit farther away. Today, Cecilia looked stunning. Who wouldn’t, when they were about to marry into the Martinez family? Of course, she’d dress to impress.

This girl had some nerve! She’d managed to steal Owen and even win over Olina, who approved of their marriage. Quite the feat. No wonder she was Lucinda's best friend, skilled in snatching away other people's men. Megan's resentment towards Cecilia only deepened.

She could handle it when Lucinda took Stefan away. After all, Stefan had never truly loved her daughter. But Owen? He had loved Ruby deeply. How could Cecilia, in just a few months, have lured him away? Megan couldn't swallow it, not on behalf of her daughter.

“Owen, are you really going to marry her?” “And why does it matter to you?” Owen’s retort left Megan speechless. She opened her mouth several times before finally forcing out, “What about Ruby? What’s going to happen to her? Owen, have you really moved on from Ruby? You’ve loved her since you were kids. You once said you’d marry no one else.”

“Yes, Ruby made a mistake, she hurt you. But can’t you forgive her this once? Owen, Ruby’s not doing well, she misses you. Could you at least visit her? Consider it a favor for an old friend.” “Give Ruby another chance, please?”

Owen avoided Megan's reaching hand, his voice icy, “Megan, Ruby and I have talked this out countless times. That’s all in the past. You know me, Megan. When I say I’m done, I’m done. I won’t turn back.”

The only one who could make him turn back was Cecilia. He’d already gone through a divorce, and yet he clung to Cecilia, hoping they’d remarry.

“I used to love Ruby deeply, fought her battles, gave everything I could. And what did I get in return? Megan, I was scarred because of Ruby. It was my own fault for being so naive.”
