His eyes were cold, his tone indifferent. “You’ve already made your choice. What is there to be conflicted about?”
He dried his hands and turned to leave.
Sylvia focused on the last dish, swallowed hard, and said slowly, “I’m going back to J-City tomorrow.”
Gabriel froze, the air around him turning sharp and cold. “Fine. It’s your decision.”
Without another word, he walked away.
Sylvia braced her hands on the marble countertop and tilted her head back, taking a long, deep breath before finishing the last of the dishes.
After cleaning the kitchen and dining room, she switched off the lights. Her eyes instinctively flickered toward the downstairs bedroom door before she turned and headed upstairs.
Lying in bed, the exhaustion of the day washed over her, but sleep wouldn’t come. She tossed and turned for an hour before giving up and going out onto the balcony to look at the stars.
The stars in the mountains were usually brilliant, clear enough to pierce through the soul and offer hope. But tonight, the sky was a hazy gray, and even the moon was just a pale, yellowish blur.
She remembered then: the weather was turning.
She hoped the rain would hold off until after she had left the mountains.
As her mind wandered, her gaze drifted downward, and she saw that the light in Gabriel’s room was still on. He was awake, too.
If she just leaned out a little, she might be able to see what he was doing.
She resisted the urge and forced herself to look back up at the sky, searching for a stray star in the gaps between the clouds.
When her neck ached from looking up, she glanced toward the other villas and stretched. Her eyes landed on something, and she raised her eyebrows in surprise.
On the lawn in front of the library was a set of wooden bleachers. A lone figure was sitting on them.
Jenny rolled her eyes. “Give that guy an inch and he’ll take a mile. I’m not about to boost his ego.”
Sylvia smiled but didn’t comment on the delicate dynamic between Jenny and Jonas.
“Why are you still up so late?” Sylvia asked.
“You’re up too, aren’t you?” Jenny retorted with a cute tilt of her head.
Sylvia smirked. “But I’m not sitting out here in the middle of the night.”
Jenny looked a little embarrassed, then laughed softly. “My mom called tonight. She wants me to come home. She doesn’t want me to go abroad anymore. She said she’s already found me a boyfriend and wants me to get married.”
Sylvia frowned. “Your mom doesn’t support your art?”

Maybe Gabriel can have someone at the Citadel check the whereabouts of Evelyn's boyfriend, whom she followed there in the 1st place to get information about her adoptive family and her biological family as well. The sooner she's gone the better. Thanks for the updates....
