Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 2679

Eugene didn’t look back. He followed Sylvia out into the courtyard. “Sylvia!”

“I won’t be going to the cemetery with you,” Sylvia said, stopping. Her voice was calm. “You can say my goodbyes to your grandmother for me.”

Eugene was filled with remorse. “I’m so sorry. My mother has always been like that—she never thinks before she speaks. And my brother is just a spoiled brat. Please, don’t take anything they said to heart.”

Sylvia nodded. “Don’t worry. I won’t.”

He looked at her, his eyes full of warmth. “You’ve been with me these past few days and haven’t gotten any rest. Go home. We can see each other again in a couple of days.”

“Okay,” Sylvia said. “Call me if you need anything.”

“Let me know when you get home.”

“You should go back inside.”

Sylvia walked to her car and drove away.

That evening, she and Eugene spoke on the phone. They chatted briefly, and neither of them mentioned what had happened earlier that day.

The next day, Sylvia returned to work. A week’s worth of piled-up tasks was waiting for her.

Milanda came in with a stack of documents for her to sign. “Boss,” she began tentatively, “are you done keeping Mr. Winters company?”

Sylvia nodded. A thought occurred to her. “Milanda, for the next few days, I need you to keep an eye on the Winters family, specifically their stock market activity.”

Milanda’s face lit up. “I knew you still cared about Mr. Winters! For a minute there, I thought you were…”

She trailed off, then said cheerfully, “Don’t worry, Boss. I’ll keep a close watch.”

“Good. You can get back to work,” Sylvia said with a faint smile.

After they hung up, Sylvia packed her things and left the office.

She chose a French restaurant. When she entered the private room, Eugene was already there. He stood up as she came in and handed her a large bouquet of golden-orange roses.

“The florist told me these are called ‘Coffee Break.’ I liked the name. I hope you always have time to relax, have a cup of coffee, and just take a moment for yourself.”

“They’re beautiful,” Sylvia said, accepting the flowers and taking a seat across from him.

“What would you like to eat?” Eugene asked, opening the menu.

“Anything is fine.” Her smile was relaxed and easy.

He looked up at her, then called the waiter over and ordered for both of them, choosing all of her favorite dishes.

After the waiter left, Eugene’s expression grew serious. “In all the time we’ve spent together, this is the first time I’ve seen you smile so freely. Is it because… we’re breaking up today?”
