Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 2678

Eugene hadn’t slept well in days. Dark circles ringed his eyes, and his gaze was grim as he stared at his mother.

Mrs. Winters flinched under his intense scrutiny. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“This was your plan all along, wasn’t it, Mother?” he said with a cold sneer. “Ever since Aries was born, you’ve favored him. Now you’re just looking for an excuse to give him the entire inheritance.”

His words hit a little too close to home. Mrs. Winters’s eyes darted away. “You and Aries are both my sons. How could I play favorites? It’s you who’s insisting on dating a PR girl. You’ve disappointed me.”

“Then give the inheritance to Aries Winters,” Eugene said, his face a mask of indifference.

He turned and walked away.

Mrs. Winters was so furious her chest heaved. “You think I won’t do it?” she hissed at his retreating back. “You marry that cheap woman, and I’ll throw you out of this family! Let’s see if she still wants you when you’re no longer a Winters heir!”

Eugene’s steps faltered for a second, but he didn’t look back. He just walked away faster.

It wasn’t just Mrs. Winters. The entire Winters clan was watching Sylvia.

The revelation that she was the beneficiary of more than half of the matriarch’s estate had made her a target for every single one of them.

From the moment Gladys discovered the will, both branches of the family, and even Eugene’s grandfather, had been digging into Sylvia’s background. They all shared a common goal: under no circumstances could the family matriarch’s dowry fall into her hands.

Gladys found an opportunity to pull her son, Aries, aside. “You see that woman over there?” she whispered, pointing at Sylvia.

Aries nodded. “Yeah. What about her?”

“She’s a gold digger, trying to get her hands on your family’s money,” Gladys said, her voice dripping with venom. “Your mother is furious. I want you to go over there, yell at her, and kick her out of this funeral.”

Aries, a surly middle schooler, glared at Sylvia. “She looks like trouble,” he snorted.

“Exactly. So don’t be nice to her,” Gladys urged, a vicious glint in her eye.

Eugene’s hand connected with Aries’s face in a sharp slap. Aries froze, his hand flying to his cheek, and then burst into tears.

Mrs. Winters pushed through the crowd and wrapped her arms around her younger son, cooing, “Oh, my baby!”

“Eugene, are you out of your mind? Why did you hit your brother?” she shrieked.

Eugene’s face was pale with rage. “Because he was spouting nonsense!”

“He was telling the truth!” Mrs. Winters shot back, her body trembling with fury. “That woman has you bewitched! You’d hit your own brother for her! She’s nothing but trouble!”

“Mother!” Eugene’s face was a mess of shame and anger. He turned to Sylvia, but she had already turned and was walking away.

“Sylvia!” he cried, chasing after her.

“You get back here right now!” Mrs. Winters screamed.
