For the past few days, the Lamont estate had been bustling with guests coming to offer their congratulations.
When the Hanson family arrived, the Lamonts personally welcomed them. As long-time family friends, their relationship was closer than most.
Mr. Hanson took Xavier to the tea room to speak with Geoffrey Lamont.
Hannah and Yvonne sat in the living room, chatting with Catherine Lamont, Janice Harper, and others.
After some pleasantries, Yvonne presented the two gifts she had brought, one for Catherine and one for Janice.
“I was filming in M Country and saw these two ruby jewelry sets. I thought they were particularly festive and would be perfect to wear at the wedding.”
Catherine declined politely. “That’s very thoughtful of you, Yvonne, but it’s not necessary. Estelle personally designed jewelry for Janice and me, so we’re already prepared.”
Yvonne’s elegant smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly recovered, her smile even more graceful. “Designed by Estelle herself? In that case, I wouldn’t dare show my humble offering.”
Catherine, unaware of certain things and feeling a little sorry for Yvonne, who she thought had always liked Jonathan, said gently, “Yvonne, you’re becoming more beautiful and successful. It’s time you found a boyfriend.”
Hannah’s eyes darted around before she said with a laugh, “Yvonne and Jonathan used to be close, and Mrs. Lamont always said she wanted Yvonne as a daughter-in-law. Yvonne took your words to heart, and now it’s hard for her to consider anyone else.”
Catherine’s smile faded slightly. “We did joke about that in the past, but marriage is a matter of fate. Jonathan is about to get married, so we shouldn’t bring up the past. We wouldn’t want to hold Yvonne back.”
Hannah forced a laugh. “You’re right, Mrs. Lamont. It’s Estelle’s good fortune to be so loved and accommodated by you.”
Catherine rested her palm on the lid of her teacup and spoke unhurriedly. “On the contrary, I feel it’s our family’s good fortune to have Estelle marry into it. Before Estelle, Jonathan wasn’t interested in anyone. I was prepared for him to be a bachelor for life. But after meeting Estelle, he changed completely. I often think that Estelle must be a blessing from heaven, a reward for a lifetime of good deeds.”
Her words left Hannah and Yvonne looking uncomfortable. After all, Hannah had just mentioned the Lamonts wanting Yvonne as a daughter-in-law, and Catherine had immediately countered that Jonathan wasn’t interested in anyone before Estelle. It was a blatant slap in the face.
Janice added with a gentle smile, “The wedding is about Jonathan and Estelle. They can have it wherever they like. If you find it too far, Mrs. Hanson, you don't have to come. We appreciate the thought.”
Hannah quickly replied, “How could it be too far? We would attend even if it were an international wedding. The Hanson family will certainly be there. Our families have been friends for years; our relationship is different from others.”
Catherine smiled faintly. “Yes, it is different. Others wouldn’t dare come here and spout such nonsense to my face.”
