Catherine smiled warmly. “You did the right thing. At a time like this, nothing should disrupt Jonathan’s wedding or affect Estelle’s mood. The wedding is the top priority.”
“That’s what I thought, too,” Janice said. “It happened at our home, so we’ve suppressed it. As for how the Hanson family deals with Arvin, that’s their business.”
Catherine sighed. “That Yvonne girl seemed fine when she was young. It’s a pity about her mother. Hannah has been with the Hanson family for twenty years, but she still lacks class.”
“Yvonne wasn’t physically harmed this time, but the scene was ugly, and I’m sure it left a scar on her.” Janice frowned. “I hope she’s smart enough to recognize the situation for what it is and get her life back on track, instead of sinking deeper into this mess and continuing down the wrong path.”
Catherine nodded. “Her fate is her own to make.”
…
On the third floor.
Jonathan had just finished a video call with Estelle when Millard came in to report, “Yvonne has been sent back to the Hanson estate.”
Jonathan sat in his study, his face illuminated by the golden twilight from outside, which sharpened the noble contours of his features. His eyes were dark as he spoke in a low voice.
“Keep an eye on Yvonne for the next two days. Don’t let her go to C City.”
Millard’s brow furrowed. “Mr. Lamont, are you worried she’ll blame this on the missus?”
Jonathan’s cold eyes were tinged with gloom. “Yvonne has always been arrogant. This is a huge blow to her. There’s no telling what she might do.”
Estelle was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire, and he would not allow anyone to pose even the slightest threat to her.
Millard nodded. “I’ll have someone watch her.”
Jonathan swiveled his chair to look at the banquet unfolding in the courtyard below. “Was Manley involved in this?”
Millard replied, “He was, but not significantly. It was mainly the Hansons digging their own grave. In fact, that man Manley brought, Lambert, actually saved her at a critical moment.”
Jonathan recalled how Hannah had insisted he go see Yvonne and could guess most of the details. Disgust filled his eyes. “Throw out the bed in that guest room.”
