Estelle walked along the covered corridor to the central garden, where she saw two figures standing.
She recognized the tall, upright figure at once—it was Gabriel.
Standing opposite Gabriel was a young woman who seemed to be drunk, swaying slightly. Her flushed cheeks gave her a delicate appearance. "Gabriel, can you talk with me for a little longer? Please?"
Gabriel's voice was distant and firm. "Ms. Flairs, you've had too much to drink. I'll call Mr. Flairs to take you back to your hotel."
"I don't want to go to a hotel. Your courtyard is empty, just find me any room to stay in!" the girl whined, reaching for Gabriel's phone to stop him from calling. "You wouldn't be that stingy, would you?"
Gabriel moved to avoid her, causing the girl to stumble and lean sideways.
She was clearly drunk, and Gabriel couldn't just leave her. He reached out to steady her by the shoulder, and the girl took the opportunity to fall into his arms.
Suddenly, another hand reached out, intercepting the girl before she could reach Gabriel. A clear voice said, "Ms. Flairs!"
The girl's eyes widened as she looked at Estelle. She straightened up, a tipsy, charming smile on her face. "You're Estelle?"
Estelle had met Ann Flairs a couple of times. She was a pretty girl, with a fiery and direct personality, likely from growing up in a military family.
"Estelle, congratulations! I drank a lot of your wedding wine today!" Ann beamed. "I remember you were so little when I first met you. In the blink of an eye, you're getting married. Gabriel isn't even married, and you're getting married before him."
Estelle smiled faintly. "I am. Do you have a boyfriend, Ms. Flairs?"
Ann shook her head, her expression turning shy again. "But I have someone I like."
Estelle said, "It's late. I'll have someone show you to your room to rest."
"I don't want to sleep. I want to keep drinking, and I want to be with Gabriel!" Ann stared at Gabriel with burning intensity.
"Ann!"
A stern voice called out as Ansel Flairs walked over quickly.
"Dad!" Ann turned, swayed a little, and said with a silly grin, "What are you doing here?"
Dealing with a drunk person, even if she was faking it, was always a challenge.
Although she didn't dislike Ann, she was biased. In her mind, her brother belonged with Sylvia.
Gabriel asked, "Why are you still up? Can't sleep?"
Estelle chuckled. "I wanted to see Grandpa, but I wasn't sure if he was asleep."
Gabriel replied, "He's probably still awake. I was just heading over myself. Let's go together."
As they walked side by side toward Old Mr. Jarvis's room, Estelle glanced at him. "Does that Ann girl like you?"
Under the lamplight, the man's features were even more defined and sharp. He said calmly, "She's young. Young girls often mistake admiration for love."
Estelle raised an eyebrow, then quickly nodded in agreement. "I think Sylvia is the same."
Gabriel frowned, his eyes turning cold. "You think she merely admires me?"
