The garden was dense with flowers and trees, and the two boys carrying Kya quickly disappeared from sight.
Mrs. James's face turned pale. With no time to call for help, she and the other ladies gave chase.
Aries, carrying Kya, plunged deeper into the flower beds. Hearing people pursuing them only fueled his excitement, a thrill shining on his face as he ran even faster.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his knee. His legs buckled, and he pitched forward.
Kya fell to the ground with him.
Aries clutched his knee and rolled on the ground. Just as he was about to curse, he saw his accomplice get sent flying by a punch, followed by a vicious kick aimed straight at his own face.
The kick broke Aries’s nose, and he let out a blood-curdling scream.
The scream earned him another kick to the chest, this time so painful he couldn't even cry out.
Henson glanced at the two boys on the ground, then walked over to Kya. He set down his air rifle and helped her up.
After checking her over and seeing she was unharmed, he deliberately put on a relaxed expression. “I’m here to protect you. Don’t be afraid.”
Kya’s face was pale with fright. She stared blankly at Henson for a moment before throwing herself into his arms, clinging tightly to his neck, her small body trembling.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” Henson said, frowning. He wasn’t sure how to comfort a child, and his handsome face looked a bit stiff.
“Kya!” Mrs. James’s trembling voice called out from the distance.
“Grandma!” Kya shouted back.
Mrs. James appeared moments later, her face ashen. She rushed over, took Kya into her arms, and held her tightly.
“Grandma, Henson beat up the bad guys for me!” Kya announced happily.
Mrs. James looked at the two boys still on the ground, then at Henson, and let out a long sigh of relief. “Thank you, Henson.”
Henson returned her wave with a sunny smile.
Once Kya was gone, Henson turned to face Aries, the warmth in his eyes instantly replaced by ice.
“Where’s the other one?”
Aries, accustomed to being the top dog at the Winters estate and at school, was notoriously defiant. He just pursed his lips and said nothing.
Henson wasted no time. He hauled both boys to their feet, stripped them of their shirts, and tied them to separate trees. Then he picked two pinecones, placed one on each of their heads, and stood back ten meters to take aim.
With the gun pointed at him, Aries started to feel a flicker of fear but tried to maintain his bravado. “Which school are you from? I’m Aries from Class 7, Year 8 at Yoha Academy. You better find out who I am!”
Henson sneered. “What a coincidence. I’m Henson from Class 9, Year 7.”
A shot rang out. The pellet from the air rifle hit the tree right between Aries’s legs. He let out a yelp.
