"It's been ten years," Estelle calculated.
Ten years. It sounded like a long time, but looking back, it felt like just a moment.
Jonathan held out his hand to her. "Let's go, Mrs. Lamont. Our Party at Midnight, our life together, officially begins now!"
Estelle placed her hand in his, her eyes clear. "As long as you don't leave me, I'll never leave you, no matter how many decades pass."
Jonathan clasped her hand and pulled her into his arms. "Together in life, together in death. Don't worry. We'll never be apart in this lifetime."
Estelle rested on his shoulder, looking up at the rain of fireworks. "Thank you, Jonathan."
Thank you for pulling me out of the darkness and giving me a different kind of life.
Jonathan carried Estelle into the castle, which was ablaze with lights, finally welcoming its master and mistress.
They went up to the third floor and entered the prepared bridal suite.
The bedroom was nearly a thousand square feet, with eight arched windows and a vaulted ceiling from which a glistening crystal chandelier hung.
The room was decorated in a style of luxurious elegance, without large swathes of red. Only a crimson carpet covered the floor, complementing the translucent red stained glass in the ceiling.
The most eye-catching feature was probably the wedding bed, which was much larger than usual. A beautiful, pale gold gauze canopy descended from the ceiling, enveloping the bed. The gauze was embroidered with intricate, auspicious patterns, and small red bells were tied to it in strings.
Estelle flicked one of the bells with her finger, and it made a clear, pleasant sound.
She turned to Jonathan. "What's this for?"
Jonathan's eyes were deep, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "You'll know if you try."
It had the same strapless design and a layered skirt, but the hemline was above her knees.
Wear this now?
Hadn't the reception already ended?
Puzzled, Estelle put on the dress and styled her hair in an updo as before. There were no shoes, so she went out barefoot.
The girl, in her short white dress and with her makeup washed away, was even more radiant, her eyes bright and her teeth like pearls, as enchanting as the moon.
The soft light fell on her bare shoulders, which were as smooth as polished silk and exquisitely fair. Her flawless skin seemed to glow as her bare feet padded across the red carpet toward Jonathan.
Jonathan was still in his well-fitted shirt and black trousers, sitting on the carpet with his back against the carved stone balustrade, his bottomless eyes watching her intently.
